Mother Goose Favorites

For the past month, we have read and read and reread nursery rhymes together! You were stuck on a book of traditional nursery rhymes that were repetitive and easily memorized! We read them. You read them to me. We read them again. I even found you reading them to Princess Girl one day. She was curled up on your rocking chair and you were sitting in the floor reading to your kitty cat. Her little eyes would flutter open and shut as she listened to you read to her. That day as I read to you, your little eyes did the same thing as you said, "Mommy, I'm sleepy!" We read and read that book of nursery rhymes throughout January and on into this month until you were able to change the rhymes yourself and insert words about your kitty cat...Hickory, Dickory Doc The cat ran up the clock.......or Princess Girl ran up the clock...I was impressed with the accuracy of how you inserted words to make your own Mother Goose rhymes about your kitty cat. Even Daddy enjoyed you reading to him a time or two.......he grinned from ear to ear at how well you knew the rhymes and laughed at the reading tones you used to read some rhymes with specific expressions...she took him by the left leg and threw him down the stairs....Then today, we traded books after cleaning up your bedroom------books traveled from your bedroom to the playroom. I grabbed new books for us to read this afternoon prior to your nap. We read, The New Adventures of Mother Goose! You were mesmorized and eager to listen to these new twists! And I wasn't surprised a bit that you asked to reread this book again tonight.......and as we did, I asked you to select your favorites! I'm sure they may change in the next few days but I wanted to document the two rhymes you chose tonight.

Pat a cake, pat a cake, baker Sue,
bake me a cake that says, "I Love You!"
I've saved up my money; I'm ready to pay--
I'll give it to Mommy on Valentine's Day!

You also selected:

Yankee Doodle went to town,
Riding on a Rooster.
His saddle wasn't high enough,
so now he's got a booster!

In addition to reading, you also love the illustrations of the rhymes we read------matching the words to the pictures-------the sillier the better! You love silliness! One of your favorite parts of your Highlight's magazine are the Silly Pictures-----where you have to name what and why things are silly in the picture! I love you silly little girl--------tonight you covered Princess Girl with your little baby blanket. She's asleep just at the lower right of you! Cold nights still has her sneaking in to stay warm but more so because it melts my heart at the love you show as you care for your kitty cat and how many smiles she brings to your day!

Oh! The New Adventures that Mother Goose will bring--------and oh the adventures of joy that you fill our lives with each and every day! I loved how you set the table for dinner tonight! Each place setting was perfect------and the accuracy of how you turned the plates in the right direction so that the pictures were not crooked! I love the details you pay attention to little one! And oh the adventures of the blessings we have to look forward too.....Daddy had an unexpected blessing of his own today that in turn affects us too-----what's perfect about his new adventure is that he's deserving of it and so much more! We'll embrace the joy of these moments in our lives-------and remember to live life to the fullest-----with laughter!

We always talk about our favorite moments of times/events/etc. together--------on the way to preschool Friday morning, you were really quiet. When you called my name you said, "Mommy, you know what my best, best part is?" I asked what. You said, "Staying home with Mommy all day!" I loved that----------and it was oh so hard to make you go go preschool that morning....but with a few extra hugs and promises of a sweet three day weekend, you made it through the morning-------and one day whirled by already but not without joy! I love you! Together, we will squeeze the sweetness out of tomorrow too!
