I have had a fabulous week watching you grow up before my eyes......or maybe just enjoying you more and more......I can't get enough of your quirky ways! And I love, love, love that you are honored to have me near you always! I might even add that it drives me crazy at times too------and just when I think I can't take another "Mommy!?!" you come up with something super phenomenal and I grin from ear to ear!! Well maybe nothing someone else might think is.......but I sure do! After preschool today for instance......I was busy in the kitchen washing our dishes from lunch since you had requested couscous and Greek yogurt...you were snuggled on the couch watching Max & Ruby before nap time. I had already seen a few yawns and you were under your new BIG minky dot blanket (one that mom/dad bought for you this month to replace the baby blankets you still love to snuggle with...this new blanket covers all your little piggies)...well, both hands were soaked in suds and you hollered, "Mommy!" When I replied with, "Give me just a minute my hands are wet." "Mommy, I need something from you." And just as the last dish was rinsed off, I ventured to the couch to attend to your need....only to find out that what you needed was a HUG! Just another one of those moments that melt my heart.....and one that I'm prayfully listening more acutely to this season! I want to make sure you know that you always have my undivided attention and that I'm not too busy with life to miss being with you.
This week has been super busy with voice starting back with Mrs. Katie in Friendship at Studio on Main------new songs have been added to our playlist in the truck. You've noted that you don't know them yet but that you'll learn them for the big stage! You greeted Mrs. Katie with smiles-----and no tears Tuesday at lessons. Then Wednesday---your stay home with Mommy day, mid-week, the two of us walked to the park (a seventeen minute walk/run one way) to play and get in our exercise together! It was full of adventure too with flips on the gymnastic rings------you have superb arm strength! And on the way home from the park, you found a mini maraca that you were excited about. Daddy was creative and added a pencil to the end of it so that we can paint it and use it as a musical instrument! Your "found" treasures never cease to amaze me either. Your eyes are always searching! Then Thursday and Friday, you requested to walk to preschool from our house. It's a much shorter walk (5-7 minutes with a little running in-between)-----and the weather for walking to preschool at 8 a.m. has been wonderful these past two days. I must also note that watching you walk in with confidence does wonders for Mommy's heart! You've hung your backpack up alone and walked in with no tears two days in a row! Proud! Proud! Proud am I of you! ("Mommy, I missed you while I was at school today!"---your little words to me tonight before falling asleep! And I missed you, my little one but I know how much you learn while you're away from me---I'm eager for you to embrace it all with courage and desire to let the learning grow as you do!) But, there was another little unexpected twist to Friday morning too---you woke up a little before 7 and found Daddy still at home. Thus, you quickly dressed and told him that you were going to come to work with him to tell the boys what to do before going to school. LUCKILY, he didn't object. He saw the smile across your face and played right along! The two of you walked out the door together (and moments like this really make my heart SWELL because he chooses to allow you to be with him as you desire---what a gift this is!! There's nothing like time together!!). When the two of you returned, Daddy shared that you told the boys to "turn that stinkin' music off". They laughed at your orders since Daddy is always telling them to turn the music off and get to work!
Our afternoon nap took precedence prior to picking pears in Nanny Pat's backyard this afternoon but once we ventured out the door, you were ready! You took a little pail with you to drop the pairs you picked off the pear tree into------but found that it quickly filled up with just four or five pears. I believe we picked all the pears off the bottom half of the tree (all that we could reach). You wanted to keep picking pears but I told you we'd have to return and pick the rest with a ladder with Papa or with Daddy. You posed for a few snapshots for Mommy's camera. I told you to say, "Pears!" But of course, your little brain had something more creative, "Pear-Cheese!" I loved it! I love words and you make them even more special as we play with them together. The belt around your waist was added prior to leaving the house. When I ask you to go to your closet to put on your shoes, you always come back with something---boots, a belt, a scarf! Tick...tock...says the clock as I try to convince you that we don't need boots in the midst of summer....or a scarf.......but then sometimes accessories like belts don't matter. If it makes you happy to wear it, I try not to protest. Thus, the belt was your afternoon accessory for pear picking.
The belt did have to come off for Tumble & Cheer class though but it didn't take long to convince you that soft shorts and a tee shirt without restrictions were all you needed. You were ready to go! Today was your second class and you LOVE it. I love watching you tumble too! One full hour of stretching, jumping, tumbling, flipping, and more! When we arrived back in the truck, you immediately asked for water, told me the tumbling made you hungry, and that you were tired! Mommy had cheerios and water on hand and a dinner plan ready to go once we arrived home.
However, we did take a detour towards Daddy's shop to see if he'd be home early to grill our tenderloin. He was just locking up to join us at home. You smiled that mischievous smile and asked Daddy to ride in our truck with us. You repeated the request. And you know what!?! Daddy didn't miss a beat. He smiled his most compassionate smile and tugged right back at your heart strings. He said, "I have a better idea! Why don't you ride with me in my truck!?!" Your eyes lit up. You unbuckled your car seat and said, "Bye Mommy, I'm going to ride with Daddy in his truck!" Simply magical. The simpliest moments, the most unexpected moments of joy light up our lives and refuel our hearts.
