I couldn't resist a late night cup of coffee and the solitude of the couch as I reflected back on our day together. Routines are wonderful for us all but I still love the unexpected moments of joy the lurk around the corners of our lives.....This afternoon after time outside at the local park, you asked to drive by Daddy's shop. So we did....hugs, kisses, smiles, and whispers...."Daddy, I have to tell you a secret!" Daddy would lean in to you and you'd whisper, "I love you!" He'd beam with pride and tell you that he loved you too. Somewhere along the way a whisper of a Coke was mentioned. The two of you laughed as Daddy walked back into his shop for a cold can. He knew the drill so he started pouring out the Coke on the way back to the truck. Unhealthy food/drink choices.....The two of you shared that moment of joy together saying you all were "sneaky snakes" sneaking on Mommy. Promises of time together outside and at home.....and the two of us were off to get settled back in at home for the evening. I caught myself smiling as I was driving us back home. I love these little "sneaky snake" moments of joy that we all relish throughout our day.
Somehow time has a way of sneaking up on us too. The clock's hands must move faster when we are all together!?! As Daddy was grilling our steaks, we enjoyed watching the kittens play outside. And somewhere along the way, one little "sneaky snake" brought a strawberry Popsicle outside to enjoy before dinner.......
Immediately after dinner, the three of us took an unusual late night trip to Wal-Mart for a few items so that Daddy could prep his spaghetti sauce for tomorrow night's dinner, Chicken Parmesan. We had already discussed that we were going in and out---and that we didn't have time to stop in to look for toys. However, when we arrived the aisles were empty and we were able to move through the store with ease. All three of us were busy looking at what caught our eyes--------and you asked Daddy if he wanted to go look for a brush to replace his that broke!?! He did. But not once did he mention that the toys were near.....he probably didn't even think about it.....so Mommy must have been the sneaky snake here---prompting you to ask him about the brush!! Or was it you? Because once we arrived in the beauty section of Wal-Mart, you disappeared into the toy aisles!
I was curious as to what you'd gravitate towards since we are so close to Christmas! Dolls, doll toys and dresses........no surprise! One pair of little boots........."Mommy, can we buy these for Caroline? Please!" I told you to hold them so that we could scan them to see if they were indeed $2.00---they were so they came home with us. When we checked out, Daddy handed Mommy money to pay but I had a gift card so I was the sneaky snake again---keeping Daddy's change! He did notice that time though....When we were in the truck, he said that I cost him too much and that we were not going out together anymore! I had to joke with him and ask him if he wanted to break up!?! Ha! I did remind him that we were even since gas in both trucks was paid by me yesterday! But always be a sneaky snake when someone (i.e. Daddy or Husband) give you money-------keep the change and play the sneaky snake game!
Time on the clock..........yes...definitely the real sneaky snake! At nine thirty, we were just crawling into bed for bedtime stories. Late, late, late but then another sneaky snake moment......a sunflower! Daddy came into your bedroom with one tattered sunflower that he found today. All of the sunflowers at the dove field were gone he said except this one-----one sneaky snake moment of joy! Even flowers tattered and worn, weeds or roses when given to you by one that loves you----count them all as joy!! It was only today when I pulled one withered hydrangea from the window seal that you brought in for me last night. And the little heart leaf you brought to me still rests on the window seal......sneaking smiles from my lips when I see it knowing your heart was in that gift: "Mommy, a heart leaf for you!"
One more little sneaky snake moment waiting for you when you wake up........Caroline! I do believe that you and daddy were not "watching her like a chicken hawk" (a phrase you two enjoy using when you are referring to Caroline & her mischief) because she's up to something!?! She still has on her purple rain boots! I think she likes them!! She told me that rain is expected on Halloween night--------and that we still have a pumpkin to carve!?! I wonder what you'll think when you wake up!?!
I love you my little sneaky snake!
