April Showers

Early this spring, we prepared for more showers than we actually have had this season! We replaced a broken dinosaur umbrella with this Hello Kitty umbrella that you personally selected from Wal-Mart for yourself! Additionally, we bought these colorful flower boots for you! You've jumped in a few rain puddles and played outside in the light rain with Mommy! We took advantage of the muddy terrain to create forests with twigs we collected around the yard. Since this rainy day, I don't recall many........

Yet, we clearly needed a few more shower filled days! This snapshot of you last weekend reminded me oh! so well.......that indeed we needed time to play indoors and create memories together! You and I both were exhausted from running to preschool, voice, soccer, doctor visits, the park, lunch/dinner dates to eat, & more! The days would fly by with our agenda booked-----enjoying every moment as our bodies said slow down! Thus, last weekend we spent one day indoors just enjoying our home and free play. Today, we did the same....We let the sunshine beam down and brighten our day as we took advantage of the schedule free day to pick up the playroom and paint.......

You painted at the easel and at your toddler table. We created a spring mural on your playroom door integrating the sun, sunflower, water-droplet flowers, butterfly, and caterpillar that you had painted at school these past few weeks! You were proud of the results-----the clean playroom and the spring display on your door! Then, all of a sudden coffee was brewing in the kitchen and water was running at the kitchen sink! We could hear daddy washing up from a busy day at work. You called across the house to get his attention and bring him to your playroom to show him your creations! Immediately, you asked Mommy where your treasure box was so that you could give Daddy little pieces of yellow paper (there was no significance to them other than you cut them out for Daddy)! You're as much a giver as Mommy & Daddy both are-------we're still working on sharing but you love to give to others already!
Cheese!

You HEAR Daddy in the kitchen!

These snapshots are just random in the midst of this post but notice the peonies that Yiayia planted for me the year you were born! They too have grown and return each spring to testify to a life filled with "April Showers"--------and look at that long line of hosta plants that we dug up from the side of the house last spring! You played while Mommy, dug and dug...and when we finally removed a few, Daddy dug holes for us to plant them by our backdoor. They're back too------and growing quickly with each passing day! And the geraniums below remind me of Yiayia Marianthi whom you never met but her smile was as beautiful as their blooms. In the village of Ano Ravenia in Greece, they graced her home's yard in tin cans from Feta Cheese or Olive Oil---and their beauty carry on each spring & summer until this day------their colors radiating my love and remembrance of her presence in my life.

Other favorite moments today:
  • When you were washing your kitchen dishes, you said, "Mommy, I need a rug to wash my dishes?" I brought you a sponge.
  • After dinner, daddy & I were cleaning up the kitchen---you had gone to your room! You put on your necklace and bracelet from Nouna Mary, your owl purse from Mrs. Dee & Drue, and three babies at least-------all of a sudden crashing sounds against your hardwood floors then you saying in a worried voice that you had made a mess with Dominoes all over your floor. We reassured you that it was okay! It was interesting to me that your were upset about it----I guess after a day of straightening up the playroom, you wanted a clean house too (as Mommy always does)! Or maybe you didn't want what was on the floor to go to the Mission--we read a book of opposites at bedtime....full wagon/empty wagon. I asked, "What do you think the little boy did with his things that were in the wagon?" You answered, "...to the Mission!"
  • Daddy shared that while you were outside together, two Doves caught your attention with the noise they were making........you inquired as to what they were doing....Daddy, told you that the male Dove was trying to kiss the girl dove. You responded that the girl Dove "didn't want any kisses" (a conclusion drawn from her flying away from the male Dove repeatedly)!
  • At bedtime, you threw your arm around me and said, "Mommy, I lub (love) you!"

Together, we'll squeeze the day and when it doesn't rain, we'll shower you with April Showers------laughter and love the entire day through........
