A Celebration

Today after preschool pick up and a quick lunch of couscous and Greek yogurt, the two of us (Sophia & I) ventured outside to play in the front yard. We lounged around on the swing hung from the majestic oak cuddling under the cloudy skies that had promised warmth for the day but the morning brought cooler spring temperatures in the sixties!

We shared your baby blanket, Sophia, to snuggle until you were ready to get down and play. You pulled it off of Mommy and placed it on one of your little yellow retro chairs------and moved the chair to the driveway area away from my reach!?! The three robins in the yard caught your attention and you chased them about the yard------as did the squirrel digging around the oak tree! You'd delightfully chase and say, "Hey! Come back!"--laughing all along! You made Mommy laugh out loud too-------enough to get up and go grab the camera but the robins and the squirrels were no where in sight! Yet, the memories were captured right here in my heart----and in this snapshot of our morning outside together!

Side Note: "Hey! Come back!" is a little line you picked up after hearing it on a cartoon, Peppa Pig one day this past month or so. I was washing the dishes while you were watching. Eruptive laughter from you made me turn my back to see what you were watching---one of the pigs on the cartoon were chasing after a watermelon in the grocery store. You laughed out loud continuously saying, "Hey! Come back!"------from that moment on you periodically laugh aloud and as you say..."Hey! Come back!" wanting something to come to you!

Laughter & Relaxation--together in our front yard at 736 Sampson Ave

"Which is longer?" asked Sophia.
I love this snapshot of you this morning asking aloud, "Which is longer?" It's such a simple question but knowing that I just picked you up from school and that you're learning warms my heart---my Mommy heart & teacher heart! And that look of wonder on your face-------fantastic! You didn't ask the question to me just aloud. I love that! I love watching you learn, question, and think-------the wisdom you'll bestow onto others one day begins here!

The morning's end brought an afternoon nap and time out and about in our town at Okeena Park. As we arrived in the vicinity of the park, you noticed the tents and people buzzing about at Relay for Life's annual event. You asked, "Mommy, can we go to that celebration?"

I love it! Where did you find that word in your vocabulary of words at 3 years old-------almost four!?! After parking, we walked about the event-----the celebration of remembrance, hope, love, life----innocence of a child. We walked to the park (one of your favorite places to visit throughout the week) and Mommy pushed you on the swing. You picked wildflowers----pink, purple, yellow--------and clover flowers from around the park (not enough to hurt the magnificent display of color)! You asked about the community swimming pool and kicked the sand about too! One favorite request of yours tonight was, "Mommy, hold my hand!" I loved it too! I don't hear this often! You're always busy exploring about on your own and don't want to be restrained but my guess is with the newness of the evening's celebration, you wanted Mommy close by, holding on to you! That was perfect for the evening as we intermingled about the booths and crowd.

Sophia is as wild & beautiful as these wildflowers.

"Mommy, can I pick one?"

Potatoes & Onions--Mm! Delicious! And grilled hotdogs too.....
We enjoyed dinner at Relay for Life! Our three course meal consisted of grilled hotdogs and potatoes with onions first. Second, some cotton candy and cake pops. Third, steak sandwiches from First United Methodist's booth. Oh.........and more cotton candy! When you initially requested it, you asked for it "Cotton candy like the ferris wheel!"-----making the connection that we had bought it for you at the Dyer County Fair.

The flowers in your hair and beads around your neck are from the City of Dyersburg's booth (future post reminder to self---Laura Numeroff's characters)

Miss Northwest Tennessee & My Little Princess

Daddy-O & Sophia Reunited
A crown always attracts little princesses-----and you were delighted to get a snapshot with Miss Northwest Tennessee but the highlight of the evening was running into Daddy's arms! After being gone for another week working out of town, you ran like crazy into his arms------immediately asking him questions---inquiring about his bandage-------and getting him to buy that second round of cotton candy!

A beautiful evening of memories for our family as those around us affected by cancer walked in love, for hope for a cure--& as one mother (www.erikandkatekrull.blogspot.com) declared today on Facebook, "Praising God this morning for clear scans!! Now, everyone help us celebrate this good news by running or walking in the Go Lucy Go 5k!!"

HOPE. LOVE. MEMORIES.
