What a super busy but fun filled day! One of our favorite phrases to use is, "That's silly!" When we see something that is out of the ordinary or when we create images with words as a spin off from a book we read----we say, "That's silly!" I love to hear you say that-------and I love you even more!
Our day began with a lazy morning at home------then, we filled the hours with errands around town. Ashley & Keegan Rogers, our friends, joined us.........lunch on the go........a long nap for you! And more errands & favorite moments erupted.....
These were my favorites.........
- from this morning the pattern on your fingernails. You were reluctant to let Mommy wipe off last Friday's Celebration nail polish but it had to come off! I suggested a pattern of red (the color you wanted to keep) and Bubblegum Pink. Thus, your precious little hands have little nails that are red.pink.red.pink.red.pink.....
- Your first seasonal dip in the pool at the Rogers's household this afternoon........only feet brought about a wet skirt, wet boyshorts, a trial of wearing a life-jacket, etc. Thus, I wrapped you up in a borrowed towel and brought you home to change you before venturing out again. Mommy pulled on a lightweight jean dress on you and started dinner. You worked on a picture with stickers and practiced writing your name. Then you involved Mommy........"Mommy, can you draw me a window?" After I drew you a window, I asked you if it looked like ours and you corrected my design by telling me to draw something else on our window----part of our plantation shutters (I forgot what you called it!). "Mommy, can you draw me a cabinet?" As soon as I'd draw it, you'd look around in our kitchen to make sure that I had drawn it correctly. "Mommy, can you draw me a refrigerator?" ......the look.........So I wonder, do you have your Daddy's eye for building already? We semi-pulled together the kitchen and headed back out the door for a late evening at the park while the sun was setting. The weather was perfect! I walked a few laps around the playset while pushing you on the swing and then I remembered. "Sophia, what panties did you put on?" You looked at me and told me that you weren't wearing any panties! "Mommy, WE forgot! Mommy, we forgot! We forgot my panties!" A few more minutes of playtime and we were ready to head home. "Mommy, we have to go to Big Lots to get that purple baby!"
-
I gave in.......not because you needed one more baby.....not because......just because.....the purple baby was still at the counter. We paid for her as you grinned from ear to ear asking the clerk to cut the tags off of her. The exact same baby in pink was all tattered & worn in your arms! You faced the two babies together and started talking. As we headed out the door towards the truck, you said to the new purple baby, "Don't you just love me?"
- Our bedtime ritual........."Mommy, I lub you!" After a few books, songs, talking-----I closed my eyes and said, "Mommy needs to just close her eyes and unwind." You asked, "Why?" I told you that it had just been a super busy day and that I needed to unwind. You asked, "Why? I reiterated what all we had done and that I needed to rest because I was old. You said, "Mommy, you're new!" Together, we laughed-------and laughed!
You settled into your pillow and I felt the stillness of the night seal your energy for the morning's new moments as I read Ann Voskamp's blog entry, How Everyone Can Be An Optimist------"Believe just this moment that everything is being transfigured for His
glory. Every step towards something beautiful already accomplishes
something beautiful. Beauty and joy are found in every overcoming along
the way."
