Idiom
of sorts
of one sort or another; of an indefinite kind........
The morning was a quiet one. You slept in until almost nine o'clock---12 hours of sleep! I enjoyed morning coffee time quietly thinking through my day-----only my mind was racing...it wasn't quiet at all! It was organizing and micromanaging how much needed to be done.........laundry, dishes, packing lunch, printing pictures for preschool, replacing electrical outlets, buying fruit for the week, paying bills, etc. The tension of these thoughts quickly invaded my body but as the day unfolded each ball of tension was replaced with a moment of joy. Although, I didn't see Daddy this morning when I woke up, I woke to my coffee ready to brew----newspapers on the front porch that he delivered back to the house before reporting to work (coupon Sunday).....a conversation with a friend about our toddlers that we LOVE so much......seeing you in your yellow princess dress was a ray of sunshine to our day too.......a trip to Family Dollar & Kroger....as Mommy began to complete the day's work around the house....and you began to play with your toys in the kitchen window seat.......I saw a shadow at the back door. Daddy! He was home early for a light lunch. Salad for Mommy-----cheese and crackers, peanut butter & crackers, and pickles for the two of you......And then our day "of sorts" began.........I really felt that I needed to be home today pulling our home together for the week but REALLY that day was Saturday.....Your "VOICE" song denotes that Saturday is the day, the family must prepare for the week of ahead since Sunday is a day of REST........a day "of Sorts" for us today........The three of us left around noon for a day of play.....Daddy, of course, semi-worked up a list of what needed to be done at the lake house-----you and I pretended to nap on the couch, stretching our bodies out.......tickling, laughing, enjoying the time together! Before leaving the lake house, you took a paper plate and a plastic knife with you........and oh! You played "Ping, Pong" for the first time! Actually, Daddy & I played "Ping, Pong" together for the first time.......loads of laughter and many trips chasing the ball........

After leaving the lake house, we ventured to another outdoor farm that Daddy works on......we parked the truck and rode this four-wheeled machine.......and it created many NEW memories for the three of us too.......You enjoyed taking the wheel from Daddy....and just when you were concentrating the most, I'd see you jump out of Daddy's lap to chatter away about something, or laugh at something.....you thought it was funny to see a turkey running away from us........and Daddy spotted a turkey feather for you to take home with you.......When Daddy stopped to show you the fishing hole, you found glass treasures......capturing these photographs of the two of you and of our time together this Sunday continued to melt away the stress of daily living, of the list of chores I created in my mind that had to be done today.........Sunday's blessings continued to radiate through my veins. You spotted yellow flowers in the fields---wild and free to grow as they wished.......we stopped for Daddy to pick you some on your request......and you immediately gave them to Mommy! Thank you for my flowers.........each stem convicts me of the love between us ( I found a clover flower pressed down flat in your school folder last week and I couldn't make myself throw it away! It's still floating about the kitchen table...stealing a smile from me each time that I see it--knowing you picked it for me!).....and these dry fields of corn remind me of how the world works together.......that one blessing brings another........we stopped to pick a few ears of corn for you to touch and experience.......to bring home to feed our squirrels...

.......having left the lake house and the farm, you had eaten all the snacks Mommy packed for our outing....so we stopped in to see Nanny Pat and Poppa. You took in your plate from the lake house and the plastic knife and asked Nanny Pat for some food (Daddy's idea with the props!). Nanny Pat quickly gathered some cheese and bologna (another first for you) for you to snack on....and she gave us some fresh apples to take home to eat with caramel---a snack you love at home! A refreshing bite..........and a glass of sweet tea.........and a few hugs later and we were back home.....you helped cook pork souvlakia with Daddy on the grill.......and ate all of your pork, broccoli, corn, fries------claimed a "happy plate"-----and time at the park with Daddy while Mommy ran after a toilet cleaning brush....yes, my list of chores still existed when we returned home from our day out together........I was able to fulfill your request for mint chocolate chip ice-cream and cheese/sticks with your ice-cream (your idea)...
then a strawberry infused bubble bath..........books read and rhyming words that tickled you to sleep.........our day "of sorts" was perfect........for today-----for our memory bank! Our day "of sorts" was our family day this Sunday-------and I pray that God would unfold many more of these days "of sorts"-----an indefinite kind; the kind of day I wouldn't trade for the world's riches; nor, would I trade it for a day of Mommy's chores marked completely off my endless list!
