A Slice of Life

Seven days of August remain and I'm frantically searching for the PAUSE button! Time with you, little one, should be endless-------before I can wrap my arms around one moment, one slice of our life, it's time to tuck you into bed for night time stories and hours of zzz's before another day quickly arrives------and dissipates! A few snapshots of moments with you this month...........

Sophia hanging up her backpack & lunch box at preschool!
Sophia reading a thank you note from Ms. Donna at preschool! I was delighted when you said it was from Ms. Donna! When Mommy asked you how you knew, you said it was a thank you note from her kitty cat, Mister, for the cat food. (You saw the kitty cats on the stationery and deduced that it was indeed for the cat food he enjoyed from you!)
Sophia enjoying a lollipop as voice lessons were coming to a close on week two! You were excited to sing and dance------and have Mommy peek in on you (your assurance that Mommy wasn't too far away from you)! I can't switch the music to your CD fast enough in the truck before you begin requesting your "new songs" to practice!
Celebrating the END of the first week of preschool with cupcakes from our downtown bakery in Dyersburg as you are pulling out your folder, books, lunchbox, etc. from your preschool backpack (what a perfect & thoughtful summer birthday gift)!
I loved the day you came home to tell me that you learned that an octopus has eight legs and a starfish has five! Hearing tidbits of your day at school MAKES Mommy's day perfect! I laughed at you when you kept repeating, "Mr. Mathew!" last week. I asked you about it and you said that the teacher says that at school.....you'd say it and laugh! I'm not sure what the full story is here but hearing your laughter at the end of the day is pure joy!
.....and when your school day is finished-----after you devour a plate full of food, you request to color, draw, complete puzzle books, & more! You can't get enough...........Thus, Mommy has homework to prepare after school projects for you as soon as our swimming days are finished for the summer of 2012!
August 3rd was National Watermelon Day.........so Mommy bought you a watermelon to hold as you experienced how heavy it was even though it fit in your arms....and I had you help me cut it open to discover what was inside......you took a slice of watermelon to taste before Mommy cut up the rest of it for us to enjoy throughout the week..........Then, we cleaned up the sticky, juicy mess and painted watermelons at the kitchen table............I think we'll paint those watermelon seeds on to our watermelon painting this weekend and hang it up in your playroom to enjoy for the rest of the summer season......and we just might have to buy one more watermelon to end the season with as we anticipate autumn's arrival in the upcoming month............
A bite...a taste...a smile...you, the beat of my heart....
Concentrating....eyelashes that steal my breath...
captivating......my little school girl...

And if your schedule allowed for just one more activity, I think I'd have to say that you are going to gymnastics class........it's on my Mommy list of items to check in to for you! Look at these little monkey toes! They used to hook to the tray of your stroller as Mommy and Daddy strolled you through the neighborhood when you were a baby........and Daddy & I always marvel at your upper body strength! Well, these two photographs reiterated that you're our little gymnast! I was surprised as I held my breath when you made it this far on your own......but then asked to flip------we're not there yet but I know to anticipate it NEXT.  These two were my favorite snapshots of you at Ann Charlotte's birthday party last weekend but I have to say that my heart beamed with pride when you said bye to Ann Charlotte and said thank you for inviting me to your birthday party! I love, love, love it when you use your manners with genuine grace.
Our Gymnast
Hotdogs, chips, lemonade, coke, watermelon----and birthday cake at the perfect picnic location! I love all these moments together with you-----celebrating, eating, laughing, learning, capturing each slice of life in my heart.........documenting slivers of them for you to question Mommy about one day......and with each word typed...and each picture posted, I pray that God would multiply these blessings for many more with you........

.....I can't get enough of you! I love the picture of yourself that you illustrated and cut out of construction paper during this second week of preschool.....it's framed and on my desk...when you're not a word or a touch away from me, I glance up and see you, an artist, a gymnast, a girl, a daughter...my baby......tomorrow, I think that you'll be delighted to discover that it's indeed SATURDAY-----a day at home with Mommy! And, I will relish the extra hugs and time together........crossing through my personal agenda & scheduling in another slice of life with YOU!!!
