We have officially been home one week from vacation now and I'm pretty sure that all of our jet lag is gone, gone, gone! Although, I think we are still loving a non-rigorous schedule around here (at least we don't have one set yet)! Last night, Daddy grilled homemade cheeseburgers for us----mmm a tasty summer delight! This morning, we both slept in a little later and before we opened our door for our friends, Ashley, Keegan, & Del to visit. Soon thereafter, Mrs. Polly, our favorite next door neighbor called! She wanted to catch us early before we left the house to invite us over for a lunch/playdate with her and her grandchildren, Caroline and Jack---and Finley too. We accepted the impromptu invitation----and what a delight it was to have such a wonderful back to school lunch date on National Ice Cream Sandwich Day! Prior to leaving the house, you had covered Keegan's shirt with Clifford stickers and had placed a few of your stickers on yourself. As we locked the back door and headed to Mrs. Polly's house, we saw Mrs. Polly exiting. She wanted to ask if you wanted to bring any babies to play with since Caroline had brought some of her babies. You opted to just play with Mrs. Polly's babies. As we were all reacquainted, Mrs. Polly noticed an "I can share" sticker on your shirt! Luckily, you did just that! All three of you, Caroline, Jack, & you, Sophia, were superb guests at Mrs. Polly's house. You played alongside one another and shared all of the toys, babies, puzzles, and Mrs. Polly's piano. Not one arguing word or phrase! Mommy was indeed impressed that each of you were captivated with your play date, toys, & friends. Finley and I helped Mrs. Polly prepare our lunch in the kitchen. Mrs. Polly served the adults chicken salad on a bed of lettuce with fresh tomatoes, strawberries, and blueberries with a side of healthy chips & hummus. Each of the children, including you, had peanut butter sandwiches with celery, cucumbers, chicken nuggets, blueberries, strawberries, & chips. The lunch was perfect. Mrs. Polly was surprised that you all sat and ate with us so well during our "Back to School Luncheon"----and Jack (2) was delighted that he didn't peek during the blessing prior to our lunch (so sweet). When we all went our separate ways for our afternoon naps, I browsed Facebook and noticed that it was National Ice Cream Sandwich Day-------and what made today's national ice cream sandwich day celebration even more delightful for me is that we were able to soak up the unexpected blessings of today's lunch with special friends all because my favorite neighbor in the world took the time to bring us all together for a special lunch date. Mrs. Polly, too, will be surprised that she chose this special day too because for dessert she served Homemade Ice-Cream Sandwiches that she made from a recipe from Bon Appetit Magazine----another delicious dessert served from her kitchen! Mmm.....I might just have to go back for one more today just to make sure we've properly celebrated National Ice Cream Sandwich Day! Although the smiles in these photographs and the memories captured in my heart say we have indeed celebrated!
