Last Christmas, you were delighted to find all of your Santa gifts waiting by the fireplace and likewise you enjoyed opening each gift from Mommy & Daddy that was placed under the Christmas tree. However, there was one gift that you used daily from Christmas Day on-----a pair of scissors. Your own little pair of green scissors that were tucked away in your stocking for you! I was impressed at how carefully you walked from the kitchen to the playroom and vice versa with them (great preschool instructions)! You quickly mastered holding them and cutting your own pictures out of magazines for our cut and glue activities that we enjoy creating at home. Those little scissors didn't travel with us to Greece------therefore instructions for using scissors were a little dusty. The few cut and glue activities that we engaged in on the veranda in the village------I solely did all the cutting with Yiayia's adult scissors. Today, we unearthed those little green scissors but failed to take the time to pull out the instructions (verbal instructions) on how you should use them. I looked away for a minute and you were gone! Out of the kitchen and to the playroom........as I saw you sneak back into the kitchen like that sly fox who ate the gingerbread man in one of your beloved books, I asked: What did you cut? You opened the pantry door and tossed something away in our trash can and then quietly answered me, "My hair!" I sent Daddy a text message about the incident and he replied, "That's funny!" Ha! Not so funny-----Mommy didn't lose her cool but I want you to know that is not what we do with our toddler scissors so I reiterated to you twice that we don't cut our own hair and that we especially don't cut another child's hair---ever! Oh! My! There's so much in store for me as your Mommy! You sly little fox! I love you dearly and I love you with do-it-yourself haircuts (it was only one inch off a small portion of your hair) too but next time we'll get those instructions out first! I'll also be sure to follow up on scheduling your salon visit this week-------you've been asking when you are going to get your hair cut so I'll bump that memo up on our to do list just for you!
