That Would Be Cool

I think if I told you that everyday could be Saturday, you'd say it again----'That would be cool!" I nearly laughed out loud when I heard you say this tonight during story time in bed tonight. We were reading, Daddy & Me. I told you that you could change the familiar storyline to read about Daddy & you building a cat house for Princess Girl rather than a dog house for Henry as the story reads. You liked that idea so we read the text and inserted cat for dog and Princess Girl for Henry. Afterwards, I told you that since we were just planning on a day at home with chores, playtime, paint time, reading and more that we'd paint a cat house and place Princess Girl in there too. Your response, "That would be cool!" I grinned from ear to ear and knew right away that was something Daddy had taught you or at least something you picked up at school. It's not my lingo. I asked you who taught you that or where did you hear that and of course, you said, "Daddy!" I called Daddy from the bedroom. He reiterated that indeed he did laughing as he told me that while the two of you were coloring tonight (on the couch---you said, "Mommy, I'll be very careful not to color the couch!" when you headed there after dinner to color). Daddy said you'd indicate that you were coloring something a specific color and he'd say, "That would be cool!" And so the lesson was learned..........But the way you pursed your lips and said that to me tonight was full of life and color------the sassy, spunky little girl that I try taming all day, all week, all month-----YOU! This audible moment was just a cheerful red cherry on top of a Saturday sundae of blessings!

You opened your eyes at 6:30 a.m. eagerly asking where your socks and new tennis shoes (that you wanted to sleep with last night) were.........by seven you were dressed and searching for clothes! You pulled the pile of  'clothes we needed to try on to see how they fit' into the living room before I was even finished with my coffee------jeans, a t-shirt, and your new tennis shoes dressed for the day and full of energy! We managed to stay home for a little longer pulling the kitchen together and getting floors swept and mopped. Then off to the bank, store, gas station--------and drive to Jackson to meet Uncle Gus and his family for a late lunch! They gave you your belated birthday gift, Minnie Mouse pajamas! You loved them and insisted you wear them during lunch as you consumed: apple pie (dessert first), broccoli, okra, sauteed spinach, and black eyed peas! When we parted from our mini family lunch, the two of us went shopping as Mommy had promised all week. You were delighted with your fire department goodies from the firemen outside of Old Navy....your purple and pink balloons from Old Navy & Perkins....new leggings from Target...and a frilly tutu skirt.......your candy necklace.....you called Daddy to tell him about your day on our way home. My favorite moments were watching you enjoy family time at lunch------and of course watching you eat so well! Other favorite moments were when you were writing out your Christmas wish list for yourself, Mommy, and Daddy in the truck when we were driving to Target---you pointed out to me that there were several P's on your list. I love all these letters that you are pooling together for your words/nouns on your list. Your insights for what each of us needed were priceless too. You added that Daddy needed new shirts just like you've heard Mommy say.........and when I asked you to write down that Daddy needed new boots, you said, "He already has new boots!" You're taking inventory of what we've already bought for ourselves too. Although, your list little one is endless whether you have the item or not or whether you need it or not........leggings, pajamas, candy, etc.

At Target, you insisted in sitting in the shopping cart........when we passed by the Halloween Nutcrackers you noticed them and your eyes popped out......"Mommy, I want to see those! Get me down I want to see those!"  I had to laugh because again, I knew you'd ask to see them the minute we passed the nutcrackers! You loved to play with these in the years past at Christmas time. I think we've had to send a few nutcrackers to the Nutcracker hospital but I loved seeing them move each day. Even when I least expected them to be moved from around the Christmas tree, I'd find them all in a row or across the room as you slept midday for your nap. I love these memories with you! In Target, you told Mommy you were tired--------and it had been a long stretch with a mini nap since 6:30 a.m. You erupted with the giggles making the afternoon even more pleasant! I took in each little giggle and stirred the brew for a few more.......When I asked you tonight what your favorite part of today was you said, "Shopping at Target!" I always enjoy our trips to Target too. They never seem to be just ordinary shopping trips but moments filled with joy!

I'll never forget the Target trip that we chased a tiny, tiny magnetic ball around the store! You had to be a little over 2.5 when you found this mini magnetic sphere-----when you'd drop it, we'd search and find it on the shopping cart or on a display shelf or on my purse...........a year or more later, that tiny object is still floating around our home! I found it one day cleaning stuck to the lamp. You played with it at dinner one evening and it was last seen on the vinegar spout but who knows where that tiny little ball is now. Somewhere lurking in our home hanging on for dear life to another piece of metal! That's what we are: Two magnets-----Mommy & You! We're stuck together (+/-) and sometimes (+/+ or -/-)!!! This mid-month Saturday was the perfect treat for us both----as the school week unraveled and our levels of anxiety rode the ups & downs of the week....This Saturday summed up the joy of life together, Mommy & You. And although every week day---or school day can't be like today, little one, I promise you that I strive to seek out the BEST for you in all that you do!

Another favorite memory of today....."Daddy and me...." Pause. "Daddy and I......." As you were talking to me today, you'd stop and correct yourself. If Mommy hears you misuse pronouns, I try to correct you so that you learn proper grammar usage in your speech. Today, you were correcting yourself. Sometimes it was right and other times you'd switch over to the opposite pronoun. It made Mommy smile just that you were trying to correct yourself. You still say, "Her my kitty cat." or "Her is hungry!" We're working on she/her......

I just love, love, love that you are eager to learn! After lights were out tonight, you wanted to count, spell words, depict colors of objects, and more..........I think, I must copy Olivia's mother (from your books, Olivia) and say that, "You wear me out!" but I love everything about you..........Oh! If you'd tell me you loved school and if those tears would evaporate from your beautiful eyes during your school week, I think I'd join you and say, "That Would be Cool!"
