It's wonderful to have an unscheduled weekend to spend with you. Already you're tucked in bed after a busy week at school------asleep for over an hour too! Mommy is still awake uploading pictures to Shutterfly to print, creating our Christmas card, and organizing pictures for our 2013 calendar! You'll always find Mommy in the midst of endless projects----cooking, cleaning, writing, reading........and more! However, it's always important to me to stop what I'm doing to take the time to enjoy you------and listen to you!
As you finished the end of your school week, I enjoyed my morning at home with Mrs. Ashley putting away groceries while she prepped and Baked Apple & Raisin Oatmeal for our families to split (tomorrow morning the two of us will enjoy it for breakfast). We enjoyed endless conversation about our mutual interests and our families----especially our little girls---over coffee! A few more hours-----wrapping Christmas gifts, organizing paperwork, putting up the kitchen Christmas tree------and it was time to come pick you and your friend, Kayci, up from preschool. The two of you came home for an afternoon snack and enjoyed a playdate indoors/outdoors on this beautiful springlike autumn day! Keegan joined in on your playdate for a little bit too while Mrs. Ashley and I finished up yet another cup of coffee-------and as she dropped off Operation Christmas Child boxes for our Giving Back project for this fall!
After all of our friends were gone for the evening, Daddy sneaked through the back door to find you at the kitchen table gobbling down peas and corn while watching cartoons. We visited with one another and prepped Heart Attack Shrimp (fresh shrimp drowned in butter & seasoned with black pepper) for dinner. We enjoyed a pleasant dinner together before cleaning up the kitchen to drive to the Dollar Tree for Christmas and Princess coloring books for our weekend retreat at home!
The simplicity of home is much to be thankful for this season! I'm thankful for a home with a revolving front & back door for friends and family to enjoy our home as much as we do. I'm thankful for the provisions we have from Daddy as he works endless hours to provide for us. I'm thankful that you enjoy your playdates------and look forward to playing with friends that we invite over. I'm thankful for decadent dinners, coffee breaks, & prepared breakfasts. What a glorious gift it is to rejoice in Friday, friends, & more--------and several of my favorite more(s) tonight were you----you singing out made-up songs about butterflies, love, & more! You did this the other day. I sang you a line of something about loving you! You sang back to me! I just used words from my heart and you did the same! So love these moments. Tonight you took on Daddy with your made up tunes! Yes! He grinned from ear to ear to listening to you stream words together in your song. Another favorite MORE moment was when you grabbed Santa from the chair in your room (yes-----it's early but I just love the season of Christmastime & couldn't wait to pull everything out)-----you held Santa in the dark, sitting on your bed and looked up into the ceiling and said, "Santa, yes, I've been good today....write my name on your list!" I didn't say a thing! I just smiled in the dark at you. Love you-------anything to make you behave little one! You have such a sweet spirit but full of mischievousness too! You love to grab my cell phone from the night stand when I'm not looking. You'll hide it under the covers and start pushing buttons--------mostly mine! Tonight I grabbed the cell phone, as you were laughing and pulling it away from me, slightly bumping your head. Immediately, I kissed it as you rubbed and corrected me...."Mommy, you're not supposed to grab things away from someone. You have to ask for it." (A lesson reiterated to you at preschool this week too when you didn't earn a sticker since you pulled a block away from a friend on Thursday.) You were right. I kissed your head again and apologized to you telling you that you were right and that I was sorry for pulling it out of your hands. You accepted my apology and fell right to sleep! These are favorite moments because I KNOW that you are listening to my directions when I am giving them to you-----and that you're really listening when I'm trying to persuade you to make the right choice. Oh! These growing pains that we have to weave through to become fearless!
I know that through the strength of family, friends, and all the mores in our lives we don't have to worry about what to give thanks for this season. We have an abundance of joy------and furthermore, we have one another, a special bond that God created between us. I often worry------and I shouldn't as a believer. God says, "I tell you not to worry about everyday life------whether you have enough!" --Matthew 6:25 HE covers all of our needs-----and gives us MORE than we can even conceive to ask for!
