Earlier today, we slipped into some clothes--------Mommy, just jeans and pullover with rubber boots (---easy attire for my sore/broken toe from Thursday's clamor with the Lysol can)----You, a "beautiful dress" (as you called it; your gray sweater dress), sweater leggings, pink boots---three mismatched barrettes, your heart necklace, and one blingy 70s clip-on earring------full of life and energy! Anything goes when we're together....you filled your little pink purse with change and your dollar bills from Daddy (another story from earlier this month) and you were ready to go to the store with Mommy. We stopped in at Dollar General for a few cleaning products and Christmas tree lights with our Saturday coupon savings! You chose a new activity coloring book and some princess tattoos to buy (something you were introduced to this past fall----you love artwork on your body! Just promise me that it'll always wash off!!)! As Mommy finished shopping, you headed to the checkout lane and handed the cashier the tattoo packaging saying she needed the barcode to scan it so you could pay. You pulled out a few coins and handed them to the cashier (without counting them)! I love that you're learning about money and how to pay for items you want/need. Additionally, I love your language skills----"barcode!"
You were perfect at DG so we opted to head to Kroger next after stopping in at Chic-Fil-A for our free mini breakfast with our calendar coupon for the month. At Kroger, you enjoyed your mini chicken sandwiches in the shopping cart and then opted to get out to help me shop. You chose a can of black beans because you like them (you pulled me through the store to show me which beans you like). You also requested lunchables but Mommy opted NOT to buy them for you. I'm sorry that others around us don't eat healthy foods and that peer pressure demands make you desire these little trays of what they call food. Luckily, you were agreeable to leaving it behind and having something else in your lunch box for school on Monday.
Yesterday, we made Brussel Sprouts together as we stayed home relaxing and enjoying a quiet day at home after Thanksgiving! You said, 'Yum! Yum!" as you continuously popped the little green cabbage balls into your mouth as we were prepping them (They were precooked so luckily you were able to eat them prior to us baking them!). Today, you also chose dark chocolate over the leftover milk chocolate candies from Halloween at home. I hope these adventurous taste buds continue to have you long for wholesome foods rather than what your peers are eating that's not so good for you!
After snacking and putting away groceries, you were the perfect companion to shop with today so the two of us slipped back into the truck to head to a local boutique for a Small Business Saturday shopping spree (to use our free $25 credit from American Express). You looked around and commented on all the items you liked saying, "I want this for Christmas." Not once did you want to leave the store with your selected merchandise. You just requested that we add it to your LIST (And oh! What a list it is! Just remember needs before wants...) Mommy selected one item for you and one for herself. Yours was left to be wrapped for Christmas and Mommy carried hers home to try on. I'll drop back in on Monday to pick your wrapped gift up and place it underneath your Christmas tree for you!
As we arrived back home to pull our boots off and have a light lunch of salad, corn, grapes, and blackberries, the mailman arrived with our mail. Two more little gifts for you----------Mommy wrapped them, you attached the bows and placed them underneath your Christmas tree in your bedroom. Another holiday book arrived too, The Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett. You were delighted---saying, "Now, we have two!" since just yesterday, we received Gingerbread Friends by Jan Brett! The time in our day to receive the book was perfect. We gathered both books and our blankets and snuggled in your bed. We read about the Gingerbread Baby's adventures. You questioned me about what words like statue meant!?! We pretended to eat the decadent gingerbread house that the baby lived in-------and as we placed the books aside to read again tonight, you said, "Mommy, I'm hot." as you normally do after tossing around like a ball of energy in your bed. I responded with the same sentence as always, "Lie still and you'll cool off and go to sleep." Today, you inserted......"like a statute!" before drifting off to sleep.
You've added all the magical ingredients to my morning to make it absolutely beautiful----simply as you being you!
You are Mommy's beautiful little statue! I love you!
