Sunday morning, you woke up with a pep in your step------"Mommy, you stole my pillow!" Ha! I had to smile through the sleepy eyes that still closed in a deep slumber. Earlier this morning, you in fact had stolen my pillow so I left you curled up on it and took your pillow and laid underneath your sleeping form so as not to wake you. Daddy had already left for work so Mommy slept in with you--------I think until eight this morning. Then, the two us leisurely had breakfast----------and played around the house. Although Mommy's playing consisted of finishing all our laundry and scrubbing the back of the house from top to bottom as I visited with you!
I had several favorite moments today with you. The first one began with you accusing me of stealing your pillow and it was quickly followed with you having breakfast. In Greek, I told you that you could finish the last bite of your cereal and then the two of us would leave for Greece. You quickly inserted, "gianape"---couch! I was practicing our Greek together because we always fall in the habit of talking in English rather than Greek to one another------you understood and didn't hesitate to correct me that we could go the the couch to lounge after breakfast rather than to Greece. You're so literal always but you love silliness------and show much interest in continuing to learn Greek--------and visiting Greece (you ended the night with thoughts of Aris, Elia, and Ioli-----playing with them in Greece again).
As our leisure time around the couch finished up, I was tidying up the master bedroom and scrubbing it as you were entertaining yourself and your baby doll in front of the mirror. You asked, "Mommy, what's the name of that place we went to last night?" Big Lots. We don't always shop there so you inquired as a thought followed. "Mommy, are they having a sale there today!?!" No. Yesterday, they were having a 20% off sale off of everything-------but today was just a regular Sunday. No special sale. You quickly inserted that you wanted to go back and buy your blue baby doll (see last night you had selected two baby dolls to buy but we required that you only choose one to leave the store with-------and it too was an added expense). However, the cost of baby dolls don't even register with you--------you want them ALL. But I love, love, loved that you asked if they were having a sale so that we could buy her. As you watch Mommy clip coupons and follow sales, you too ask for coupons and sale dates often! Once you asked me if I had a coupon for orange glitter!?! You wanted to know if I had one so that we could buy some on sale. You silly girl.
Our Sunday continued with a swimming birthday party for one of your classmates, Lily. Thus, after nap you pulled off everything and tried on a new bathing suit----opsy! It didn't fit. Luckily, we had another swimming suit that did fit. At the indoor pool party, you enjoyed swimming in your princess swimming ring in close proximity to Mommy. I enjoyed watching you and taking note that your eagerness to learn to swim was still as prevalent as it was this past summer! Thus, we will have to fill our calendar with many, many swim dates late this spring and throughout the summer months!
The evening at home was a quiet one--------as much as we anticipated Daddy coming home to spend time with us------playing and laughing........we only got a portion of what our minds and hearts desired--------a tasty homemade cheeseburger that Daddy grilled for us while Mommy made homemade french fries. Then, Daddy took refuge on the couch with an aching back----one that's never been the same after his motorcycle accident in 2007. As tears streamed your face when it was bedtime and you had not the opportunity to play with Daddy as you would have liked, you came seeking Mommy's hugs. Daddy asked if you wanted to say prayers. You did. They were said and we read several books together.....Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Chicka Chicka 123, Just Like You, Hugs, Hugs, Hugs, & Kisses, Kisses, Kisses--------as I finished the Kisses & Hugs books (two books in one binding), you asked to see the, "Where's the Mommy's Here Hugs, wipe away tears hugs?" And I knew then that you found comfort in my arms when the end of your Sunday wasn't the type of sale you would have liked------I'm sure you would have traded in going to the store for that special baby doll for another round of playing doctor and hide and seek with Daddy. As I would have too.......
Sometimes when moments or life doesn't unfold as your heart desires little one, relish the blessings you did enjoy that day. Count them one by one---------and by morning the promise of new blessings are sure to unfold.
I love you little one!
As for that little new bathing suit that didn't fit.........Mommy had only bought it for $1 on sale after summer. I posted it tonight on a resale site and sold it for $4. Thus, we made back the money on it and a profit. I'll add the money to your Edward Jones account and just maybe many years down the road, we can spend it. I pray that when you'll want or need a "Mommy's Here Hug, Wipe Away your Tears Hug" on another imperfect Sunday, we can hug and wipe those tears away--------together enjoying the perfect Sunday Sale; one filled with blessings we can't fail to count as joy!
