Planting Petunias

Each spring, Daddy buys baskets and baskets of petunias for our front yard. He buys more than enough to plant in pots by the front stairway by the road, in hanging baskets by our front tree swing, in pots by the swing, in hanging baskets that hang from our small front porch, and in window boxes that hang from four of our front windows on our home. Additionally, potato vines are planted in the flowerbed below our front porch and ferns are hung on chains from the front porch. It's always delightful to watch our winter yard transform to an array of spring wonder as the season quickly changes from spring to summer. The days race by us as we move about spring cleaning, planting, playing and more! I love to capture many of these moments in photographs and its been wonderful watching you plant petunias with Daddy each spring for the last several years. Each year, your little hands dig bigger holes and your strength is shown as you stand next to Daddy helping, learning, asking, planting.......

"This is killing me!" is what you said as you were pulling this wagon of petunias (without anyone prompting you to go after it, you volunteered to get it by yourself).
Without any help, you made it up the driveway & around the front of the house with them.

Two years in a row Daddy's perfect purple petunias have earned our home the honor of City Beautiful in Dyersburg. This year, we have a massive dirt hole that was covered up by Daddy after he spent two days or more working on getting our home's plumbing in order. We also lost our five foot wicker swing (that we are currently trying to replace)......So if we don't earn this honor again this year, we'll rejoice in those that do for their home's front yards because a home is truly a work in progress, a place where blessings unfold-------and my favorite honor is family time! These pictures of you working in the yard with Daddy are treasures that make my heart abound for more unexpected moments of joy!

Even while we're in Greece this summer, you spot purple petunias and say those are "like Daddy's flowers!" I'm sure that I'll always find at least on pot of purple petunias gracing the presence of your home. Memories of times spent together have a way of revisiting us throughout the years in our lives.

I love you, my little planter!
