Palms Down

Today, we were supposed to start the day in pajamas but somehow as soon as you woke up this morning-------a Wednesday whirlwind began. "Mommy, I'm going to go see where Daddy is--okay!?!" A few minutes later, I remember finding you covered up next to Daddy on the couch. Then somewhere between a few sips of coffee---we found ourselves dressed and outside working on the yard. We pulled up three hanging baskets of coconut liners and soil. We removed the iron baskets and hardware and pulled two big pots of soil out back to dump behind the guest house for the city's big, red truck to come after our spring/summer plantings next Monday. You were eager to help but with your baby doll and stroller close by in the front yard. You, however, did pull the yellow, metal wagon from the garage to the front for me and pulled it again loaded down with heavy pots all the way to our backyard (I pushed from the back to help you carry the weight of it but you were a tremendous help!). At one point, Mommy decided that we needed shovels to remove the matted, dry dirt from the pots. You said you'd get them and took off running to the garage. Yep! Palms down. I wasn't far behind you but your little purple flip-flops caught the driveway just right and pulled you down. Luckily, your two little palms took the brunt of the fall (not your chin that's suffered enough cuts/scars on it). Mommy scooped you up and carried you inside for band-aids....one, two, three....two little palms and one little knee-----and later we found a wound on your chest too. But we kissed and pampered the skinned body parts and went back outside to finish our task at hand! The firetruck whizzed by and honked its horn at you as you beamed that the fireman waved to you.

After being covered in dirt, we came back inside.....breakfast was somewhere in the mix but paints and projects covered the kitchen table. You started by painting a canvas with our acrylics-----you replicated The Painted House adding flowers, grass, a beautiful sky, and the three of us...Mommy, Daddy, & Sophia visiting the house. It turned out fabulous------and full of color! Tomorrow, we'll find a special place for it to hang as we decide on what we should paint next.

While the kitchen table was covered in color, we opted to add a few colors to your birdhouse.....centers of flowers, petals, an S for Sophia, and more. Thus, the birdhouse that Daddy built for you in the early spring of 2013 is beginning to have a finished touch to it. Before long, we'll have to have Daddy create the post for it to sit upon in it's special place outside too!

Painting flowers on your birdhouse....
I loved your little neck in this picture...with your hair pulled back like Mommy's....       busy working & thinking! We are often not idle......
Lunch was served among the projects---Amy's Chicken Pot Pie from the organic frozen foods at Kroger. You enjoyed it until your tummy was full. Yum! Yum! is what I recall you saying. You thought it was good enough to have again because when we went to Kroger this afternoon, you added two more pot pies to our grocery cart! Along to these lunch items, we added more than we needed......eggplant, olive oil, oranges, yogurts and more! Thus, a quiet afternoon turned into a whirlwind Wednesday afternoon too......just like our morning! We cut up three massive eggplants and fried them in olive oil. We juiced all of the fresh oranges! We made jars of the Yummy Life's Oatmeal in Jar for breakfast/snacks----and boiled the kale for fresh eating for tomorrow.......and Friday.

Somewhere between all of that you did manage to get your speech lesson in at Dyersburg Primary School with Mrs. Diana. She beamed at your progress and filled a Ziploc bag of treats for you since you've tested out of speech. You were delighted at all of your treasures! Additionally, we stopped the whirl just a little to walk out the door and meet Mrs. Polly so that we could attend her church's Salt & Lite Wednesday night service. You felt right at home at the Methodist Church---eating dinner there, talking with others, visiting the nursery, playing in the gym (where you earned two more bandages---skinned knuckles), and listening to the children's choir rehearse their songs/play. Minutes after thanking Mrs. Polly for inviting us, you ran through the backdoor to find Daddy. We all enjoyed that fresh squeezed orange juice together and the two of you took off to fit in a bath........and to play shop in the living room as the clock's ticking grew fierce. Teeth were brushed. Books were read. Kisses on your little forehead as you settled in for the night.....and closed your eyes!

"Mommy, don't you think.......pink hair.....witch!?!"
My little witchy-witch...
Breathe. Mommy, breathe.........and I find myself loading pictures wondering how we fit in what we did today.....because amongst the projects, speech, shopping, and church.....there was a little witch flying through the house. Did you break anything? I do remember asking when I heard a thump. No! But tonight I found a little green twig hanging off of one of Mommy's Ballard Design dust collectors....I promise that I didn't fuss.....nor did I when there was yogurt all over the kitchen floor sometime today.......accidents do happen....you tell me that often as we reassure you that indeed they do happen.......and although we planned to start the day off slow.......we accidently got caught up in living. With just a little strength that you had left at the end of the night, you asked, "Mommy, is tomorrow the weekend!?!" I told you that it wasn't and that you needed to rest because you had school on Thursday and Friday prior to the weekend arriving. You responded with..."But I want tomorrow to be the weekend!" In essence, we all do. We all need weekends to rest and refresh ourselves. But there's a secret that I didn't tell you. Although tomorrow is Thursday, we only have preschool in the morning. After eleven o'clock we'll pretend that it's the weekend. We'll lounge and enjoy the unscheduled day at home. If we finish projects together, we do. And if we don't..........that's okay too. We'll let tomorrow unfold its own unexpected moments of joy. Today's were quite endearing, welcoming, and full of life........and as the weekend approaches, I'm reminded to slow down.....reflect and listen. How can we serve others? Palms down. You're watching, listening, reflecting too. I want to make sure that you know how to live life palms down------helping others. Today, when we walked into Walgreens together, you saw an employee stocking perfumes. You asked her if you could help her as you often do when we go into stores and others are working. Often times, there's no response and sometimes there is--------you often catch others off guard that you indeed want to help them. I pray that as life unravels all it's mysteries, you continue to serve palms down. Mommy will kiss those little palms again in the morning. We'll spread Neosporin on them, stick new band-aids on, and pray over them to heal as you reach forward to help others------you willingness to serve others along with your dynamic personality is sure to win others over but when they don't understand why you want to help don't let their questions discourage you to follow your heart's desires.

"Mommy, take a picture of this outfit too!?!"
Bandages on palms but a dynamic smile all the way--ready to serve!
P.S. Your little painted pumpkin-kitty didn't make it into our line of pictures tonight but only because she'd be embarrassed without two little ears.......we'll add those little triangle ears to your little pumpkin-kitty but then we'll have to be careful of what we say! Shh! Don't tell anyone but I'd trade the riches of the world to spend a day creating with you....and oh the fun we'll have in this season of giving. I'm ready to FALL in step with you. Lead the way......

I love you little one! You were one little beautiful witch today that rode her broomstick well---and if you'd invite me to your dreams, I promise that I'd ride through tonight's glorious sky with you! Together we could touch God's perfect full-moon-----and tell Him that his canvas is always the best! Effortlessly painted, waiting for us to look at it in AWE when we least expect it.

XOXOXO
