Monday brought about Yiayia & Papou's departure. After breakfast and coffee at the kitchen table, you dressed for school and they prepared for their journey back home. You hung onto Yiayia & Papou like a little monkey that you are and said, "Mommy, take our picture!" I had to run in after my camera for a few good-bye snapshots as Papou promised that we'd see one another on our family vacation and that indeed he'd come back to see you!
After school, you requested couscous for lunch but peas were our lunch! Yiayia had cooked a pan of delicious peas with onions and carrots that we were going to enjoy. It's one of your favorites but you had couscous on your mind instead. However, after watching Mommy devour two plates full of peas, you were ready to try yours too! Every little pea was eaten as we sang p.e.a.s. and unloaded each army of peas into your mouth. Giggles and smiles and a rhyme made lunch a little more adventurous...
I love that lunch can evoke a song, a poem, a book or more from you! Thus, I wanted to start a list of titles of books on our blog (Books, Books, Books) that we read together-------maybe we'll reach 100 books read before the end of the year! Each one adds unexpected value to our life. Just today we returned a stack of books to the public library only to come home with a new stack of books for new reading adventures.
An early bedtime (or just getting in bed on time) tonight will allow you to rest to fight off the rest of this allergy/cough congestion so that you can continue embracing all of your P.E.A.S.---Playing. Eating. Assimilating. Savoring life!
I had to laugh tonight when you said, "Mommy, you forgot to ask me what my favorite part was today!?!" And when I did, you said being with you. That's my favorite too but I must say I did love looking into your eyes of wonder at lunch as you recited that poem...I like to eat my peas with honey. As I, myself, tried to recite it again at bedtime, you said, "No, it goes like this....(reciting it correctly)...try it again Mommy!" You continued to correct me until it was right! You're literal, funny, delightful, a leader, and more.
My favorite!?! Simply, you in a PEA shell: Sophia!
I love you little one!

I eat my peas with honey;
I've done it all my life!
It makes the peas taste funny,
But it keeps them on the knife!
