It doesn't take much to spark your imagination little one!
My October 2013 issue of Family Fun arrived in the mail today. During nap time's story time, we flipped through the pages and your mind raced with what we should do to copy the projects and more that were outlined in the magazine. Your ideas were captivating.
One author in the magazine described creativity as what kids naturally do anyway: ask questions, explore, invent, daydream, improvise, make believe, make music, and even (or especially make mistakes)....."Creativity is what happens when preparation meets opportunity!" says Joshua Glenn
Thus as I read the pages of "Creating Creative Kids", I wanted you to know that I've already embarked in a season of endless preparations to take you places to explore the many facets of creativity this year before you enter Kindergarten----alongside with opportunities for you to create, create, create at home too!
Prior to nap, I do believe that I enjoyed some freshly baked cookies from your playroom. They were hot pink, play-doh cookies. Yummy! Delightful.....my favorite memory was when your brought them to me in the kitchen. As soon as I caught you not looking at me, I pinched a leg off and then an arm...and another....When you glanced back in my direction to see how tasty my cookie was since I was pretending to eat it, your eyes were alarming as you tried to discern if indeed I had eaten the cookie you baked me!?! I left you wondering for a minute as I moved my mouth around and around but then I had to show you that I wasn't really eating it but had pinched each portion of the gingerbread off to pretend that I was. You smiled! Satisfied. You were inspired and I saw a file open and close in that little brain of yours!
After nap time, we quickly packed items we needed for the Chalk Art Contest in Union City. We were meeting our friends Mrs. Hilary and Lyla there to enjoy an afternoon of chalk art. Here are a few snapshots from our afternoon together:
After arriving home---although the weather was still hot & humid, we still opted for a few minutes outside on the front porch. I wasn't surprised when you darted inside for a little cooking pot of yours. Inside it, you gathered acorns, dirt, grass, and leaves! When your little pot repeatedly filled Mommy's ceramic decorative stand outside, you asked if I wanted a acorn & leaf smoothie! Of course, I did! You served it up in miniature cupcake plastic toys. Then as dinnertime approached we went indoors to wash up. Daddy came in from work covered in dirt from head to toes too but he immediately prepared homemade burgers for us all. You helped Mommy make fresh orange juice in the juicer! We all three enjoyed our cups of juice and burgers too! You're not a big fan of cheeseburgers but you already had filled your belly with a little of everything this evening.
After dinner cleanup and another adventure....time in the truck with Daddy since his work was not finished. You know when you're a creative individual like Daddy is, you're in high demand. His work hours are endless. They begin before the sun rises and end long after the sun sets. For this mini night job, he allowed us to ride with him to the country! You were interested in learning about the country versus the city. You smelled something in the fields of darkness----fresh cut corn! You watched Daddy throw a plastic toy and let the dog fetch it. You were sloppy with doggie kisses and....questions streamed from your little mouth....along with requests to play with Daddy when we arrived home....back in the city...
Tic-Toc went the clock but one little creative shopkeeper couldn't contain herself. Thus, we played. Daddy invited me to shop with you too since the deals were perfect----and Daddy even told me that the shop keeper was polite! She was saying, "Thank you for shopping with me today! Have a nice day!"
You sold me a purse and a piece of jewelry for only a $1 each. I was able to grab a few snapshots as Daddy captured your attention with his silly business...something about I Dream of Jennie, Giligan's Island, & Clint Eastwood. Obviously, the trinkets you were selling him were inspiring his creativity too!
I love you little one! The research says that "Creative people are more likely to start their own companies, to be happy in their jobs, to be successful in business...and if that's not enough, they also tend to be resilient, happier, in better moods...."
And I must say that when I reflect about our day, I'm happier having explored this day through your innocent filter. I'm thankful that sparking your imagination not only filled your day with creative venues but all of our hearts with unexpected moments of joy!
You are our canvas!
