Thursday's adventures at the fair and today's pajama day at home had your little think tank working overtime as we headed to bed at eight o'clock tonight.....
"Mommy, you know what we forgot!?!"
"That trumpet....we forgot to go buy that trumpet."
Mommy, do you know what we haven't watched in a long time?" (Princess Sofia)
"Mommy, read me the poem about Mickey Jones too!" (When Mickey Jones eats ice-cream cones, he gets himself all sticky...When you requested this poem by name, I surprised that you remembered the title---what a great little memory you have!?!)
"Mommy........."
After reading books and poetry tonight, little questions and thoughts streamed for twenty minutes before little snores took over. I answered each request and quietly told you to turn off your think tank. I even pulled the key out and pretended to turn your think tank off! You think, think, think---------with each second of the clock ticking, your little motor is spinning. Daddy calls it a motor. Mommy calls it a think tank. Questions. Thoughts. Endless----end-list-ly! I completely understand your little thought processes too because Mommy's think tank works the same way! I wondered how long my own think tank would putter throughout the night after hearing your little snores. One. Two cups of decaf and I'm still puttering along. Thinking about our day together-------how mid day, you realized I was still in my pajamas and you quickly discarded your clothes to get back into your own pajamas, how you helped me with the laundry, worked in your journal alongside me, and how when it was time for tumble & cheer you asked me to "Skip" it so that we could stay in pajamas ALL day. I almost agreed but I knew you'd love exercising and working on building your tumbling skills. As we left the class, I asked you if you enjoyed exercising and you said, "Mommy, it's not exercising just tumbling!" I had to smile as I explained to you that all of those movements use your body's energy to move. And my little think tank, I will show you as soon as all of Mommy's muscles recuperate a little this weekend. We'll use the skills you use in tumbling and cheer class to exercise together outdoors--------and I think we may need to invest in a mat or two for the house. Your little back bend is already improving!!! I'm proud of your progress. I loved all of your little kisses flying across the gym today and the "Mommy, I love you!"'s too!!! A few minutes into the class and there were too many to count so I quickly came downstairs to remind you to focus on form and watch others working with coaches so that you would know what to do and refrain from getting hurt! And you did just that....quickly involving yourself in the class with less focus on me. However, your little eyes would beam with delight to show me what you were accomplishing----and I'm elated that we chose this class to help you aspire to use your body to move. Your little toned body along with your think tank--------and your sensitivity will take you to places beyond your imagination. Might I also mention your acute hearing and your humor too! I'm pointing all these positive traits out with specific explains in mind today. As we moved through the house today working on pulling the house in order, you helped me. As you found yourself doing the right thing and getting compliments from Mommy, you asked, "Mommy, what are you going to tell Daddy about me today when he comes home?" Aha! You listen. You crave positive reinforcement. Don't we all!?! Yes. You were top-notch today and in sync with what I was telling Daddy about our day together. As we drove to Tumble & Cheer class, from inside my purse my phone when "Cha-Ching!"---"Mommy, what was that silly sound!?" you quickly asked. The phone is smarter than us. We passed a dollar store and the app that I use to help us save money picked up the location of the store. Thus, the money drawer sound (of a cash register) reminded us to shop and save. I explained this to you and we laughed since we were not actually going shopping but to class. Your senses never cease to amaze me. You listen with each sense---and speaking of senses---your sense of humor is contagious! Although I was the one laughing (with my heart thumping to get home to you to help you find them too) tonight when you called my cell phone to come home to help you find your purple flip-flops. You were in tears because you couldn't find them. "Mommy, I looked by the back door and in my closet but they are not there!" I asked you to look under the kitchen table since we came in famished from class. You said you did but when I arrived home there they were waiting for us both. Our think tanks were full from all the information we gathered in today, from all that of our senses enjoyed-----from all that we hope to touch, see, feel, hear, and taste in the near future. Sometimes it's not that we can't find what we're looking for like our purple flip-flops, it's just that we need one another to fully discover them. No one else understood our day of solitude, knew our most intimate moments of just being together cleaning, folding laundry, laughing at poems' words as we tickled your knee, the traces of eye-shadow that lined your eyelids on our pajama day------together we were fulfilled being us and as we share ourselves with others, they too will understand why our think tanks runneth over beyond bedtime's ticking clock!
I love you little think tank! Never stop imagining, believing, looking, wanting, holding, laughing, reading, singing, tumbling........questioning.
Or loving.......thinking....
