Friday night's bedtime: 6:30 P.M----even Mommy was asleep for a couple of hours before waking up at nine! Having stayed home from preschool on Friday due a nagging cough, you had slept in until 9:40 and enjoyed the day with Mommy at home. However, it was time to rest your tired, little body early. We missed seeing Daddy but curled up with stories and much needed shuteye. However, I had to wake you this morning around 7:30 so that you'd see Daddy prior to him leaving for work and so that you could get all your morning stretches out prior to your soccer pictures and soccer scrimmage. A little playtime, cartoon time, and the clock was already reminding us that we'd run behind if we continued lounging so we started on a routine of breathing treatment, soccer attire.....but not before your bear had his breathing treatment.
At the soccer field....we arrived in time to hang out with the team until group pictures started. You even found a former preschool classmate on the field with dolls that you enjoyed playing with if just for a few minutes before your game. You played soccer with added gusto this weekend, kicking the ball more than once. Last Saturday, I had asked you if you enjoyed playing and you said you did. I told you that I was really proud of you for being part of the team and playing. You threw in a "but Mommy I didn't even get to kick the ball!" Well, this Saturday you made up for it! Go Sophia! Luckily, the cooler fall temperatures in the air saved Mommy from having forgotten bottled water for you....and how I loved the stretched out YOU in the last green blades of summer. You, my long, lean moving machine reminded me to schedule in unscheduled, autumn weekends into our busy calendar. Soccer socks and shoes hit the truck's floorboard seconds after getting in the truck.
We enjoyed the lunch hour stopping in at Daddy's shop and shopping at Walgreens and Kroger. At Kroger, we filled our shopping cart with caramel apple ingredients. We'd spent the early fall of 2011 creating caramel apples at home that we shared with Mrs. Dee and with Drue on a Saturday in our home. Since then, we hadn't had the opportunity to recreate the recipe. I couldn't even remember which one we used so I searched the net for a decadent one to try! I do believe that we pegged the right one. When we arrived home, we set up the caramel apple ingredients and enjoyed the fall weather outside gathering twigs for our caramel apple sticks! We worked side by side on these creative delicious fall treats. I had two of them for dinner tonight-----and I'm already planning on enjoying one for breakfast! Sticky-yumminess....
As we waited for the caramel apples to set, we took another break outside to soak in the beautiful weather! I opted to attempt to plant mums myself without Daddy's strong muscles---------but there you were too helping me so through our girl power and the laughter that the task took on, we managed to plant our two, yellow mums by the steps in our front yard all alone. However, I do recall that I found you straying to the dirt piles where our future patio will be housed------and our new tree swing to replace our old one that broke early this spring.
In the midst of cleaning sticky caramel, candies, and dirt from our hands, we found a slab of freshly smoked ribs and salmon at our back door! We were famished and didn't even know it. Thus, our clean hands once again were filled with sticky, delicious barbeque....And just when we were in the middle of another sticky mess, we were STUCK with another blessing: A knock at the backdoor! Papou & Yiayia had arrived to see us! You beamed with delight at each of them entering our home. Yiayia immediately made Greek coffee for all of us to enjoy. You asked for "biskotakia" to dip into your coffee like you always do. Yiayia didn't actually have any with her this time but you were busy enjoying name day gifts that she brought so you were not disappointed. You also opened the refrigerator to find an egg. You handed it to Yiayia and said, "Thelo Kokoko"----and she made you an "avgo melato" to eat. Oh! The places you will go with memories of love & food......and special parents....and grandparents that serve us palms down!
As we had finished our caramel apples earlier in the afternoon, Sophia looked at our handiwork and said, "Yiayia is going to come in and say, "PoPoPoPoPo"!!" And indeed she did.....Sophia, you always, listen intently to those around your and learn their special ways. I love this about you! So sticky-sweet........
Daddy was still out working. Papou was ready for a nap. You had chosen to skip yours today when I asked you if you wanted to take a nap. You said, "No, because if I take a nap...Yiayia and Papou might come and leave!" You didn't want to miss their visit. So after our late lunch, Mommy, Yiayia, & you enjoyed some shopping at a few locations around town. You picked up a new kitty------and called Daddy to tell him you had a new kitty (but didn't tell him that it was stuffed until he arrived home)! And once again, we stole away outdoors to enjoy the weather at the park.....
Dinnertime at home around the table as we shared stories. We told Papou that you liked the auctioneer at the fair and he told us a story about his first auction experience. He said that he once went to an auction and thought he was buying the table but walked away with the bidder items being what was on the table! His stories as an immigrant in America are hilarious. As we come across them and hear them again, I'll have to capture a few of them here on our family blog for you. Oh! The stories......
A mini version of shop was played in the living room. A witch with pink hair was flying through the house.....a tumbling girl was showing Daddy her new moves.....the clock brought the night to an end or at least bedtime to our attention but not without the sweetest prayer from you....one that included that Princess Girl has her baby kittens close to the house this time so that we can care for them.....and zz's didn't come until after a reading of Sticky, Sticky, Stucky! by Michael Gutch, a book from our public library trip this past Monday.
Lights out.....and a discussion of the book's ending "But to their surprise, every time they'd free an arm, it would wrap itself back around someone else. And every time they'd loosen a leg, it would find itself twisting around....in fact, they all seemed to enjoy being STUCK!" As this sticky verb-age entailed, it initiated your response...."With the caramel we made today, what if we got sticky and stuck...you and me called Daddy and Daddy got stuck to us, and he called Yiayia and she got stuck to us and Papou....and we all called the fire department to get us unstuck...." I loved that correlation from you---and how you made a pile of sticky family members based on the book's ending! .....and our question to one another...."What was your favorite part of the day!?!" ----your response, "You, Daddy, Yiayia, and Papou!" Once again, it's not what we do but who we get to spend our time with that really counts!
........and I must say that I'd love to get sticky, sticky, STUCK with YOU any day of the week!
I love your spirit little one!
