Fair Days: An Auctioneer

Labor Day weekend always reminds me that the routine of school days is in full effect with a much needed three day weekend! It's always a great time to rest and plan a family outing at the local fair------and as the excitement of the Dyer County Fair sets in......the last days of summer quickly disappear with the reverence to capture each and every last moment of colors, fun, relaxation.......

Our Thursday night at the fair this year (your third year to visit the Dyer County Fair) was captured in photographs by Mommy. However, one special snapshot will forever be filed in my heart. My camera's lens wasn't quick or magical enough to capture you in the moonlight behind the animal auction building. I looked down at you and your tongue was moving back and forth really quick mimicking the auctioneer that was auctioning off the animals at the fair. It was a silly snapshot but one that evoked an understanding that you were not only taking in the sights and excitement of the fair but that you were using your senses to take in much more at the fair. You were learning about your world around you. Thus, as we finished our last stroll through the fairgrounds------and you jumped and flipped in the air one last time.....I thought of this snapshot. We expounded on it to refrain from focusing on the verbal regrets of having to leave the fair behind us until next year. In the truck, we played auctioneer and Daddy mimicked the sale. You laughed and gave it a whirl too.....

....and the promise of finding an auction to attend just for the sights and the sounds was made as we unloaded ourselves out of the truck and back into the comforts of home to recap our favorites of the fair in the stillness of the night before dreams of slides and rides took over!

I love you more than the sticky-sugary cotton candy that I love to enjoy at the fair----and for YOU...I'll always be the highest bidder!
