Just as You Are: Without Stars or Dots

This post below was written on Friday, August 26, 2011but I was reminded of it today as I was leaving your side-----after you fell asleep this afternoon--such a precious sight in your pinkish-red polka dots, sleeping soundly........

I have always loved the written word and from your conception, I filled journals with words seeking eagerly to capture my feelings for you, the day’s love, a special moment, a milestone but there were so many beautiful, magical miracles all around me that I soon became overwhelmed with what to write and capture first and foremost. Right now, one of your little board books sits in front of me on the computer desk in your playroom and I’m eager to capture the moment it evoked in our household this week! The book is You ARE Special by Max Lucado. Being that he’s one of daddy’s favorite authors, it grabbed daddy’s attention enough to read it aloud to you one evening this week after coming in from work. As he finished reading, daddy told you how special you are to him! But even more empowering, daddy tucked this little message in his heart as he ventured about his work week. While discussing his work week, Daddy alluded to “not being one to have to wear stars or dots” to matter! And this is a message, we as parents will always seek to teach you! As the book says, “Remember, you are special because I made you. And I don’t make mistakes!” How wonderful are those simple words! Sophia, you are special because God created you! We, as parents, will seek to mold you into a beautiful Christian full of “wisdom” and love for the world around you. We’ll pray that the world’s labels don’t matter & that you’ll always know those “stars & dots” are nothing more than stickers that can’t stick to such a beautiful creation---a child of God, Sophia Evangelia Jackson!
