Little one......as anxiety closed in around my heart again today, I contemplated whether to come eat lunch with you or pick up after lunch as you requested---should I? Should I not? You're such a smart one that you have already cued in on the fact that Mommy can come pick you up after lunch. On the way to school, you requested me to do just that but with a little more confidence in your step on Monday on your part-----as hard as it was for me, I opted to let you stay until after nap today!
It's so different being Mommy and not the teacher! Walking in and seeing you sitting at the table working on "school work" steals my breath away! You are Mommy's little school girl!
I love you so much as I feverishly try to capture every tidbit about you in my heart. After school we enjoyed the cool crisp promise of fall's arrival.....a mini playdate outside in our yard with your friend, Keegan. Pretend play, sharing, snacking, running, swinging....and then it was time for voice. I grabbed an apple for the drive to Friendship....holding it in in my left hand as I drove down 412. "Mommy, let the truck drive all by itself again!" you squealed with glee from the backseat. I had to explain that I wasn't letting the truck drive by itself but that I had my right hand on the wheel lower than normal. You said you saw the truck driving by itself. Oh! How you watch and listen even when I'm not aware of you following me!
Luckily, the cloud that was following us to voice quickly caught your attention as you asked Mommy why the cloud was following us! I love your thought processes. Quickly, I inserted because we were the "leaders" as to reiterate the definition of leader that you are learning at preschool! {The question about the cloud also made me think of Yiayia's story about the trees walking........We must ask her about it during fall break when we see her!}
Lessons on the go! Life moves too quickly. I'm still looking for a PAUSE button but I'm quickly learning that folding that last stack of clothes or worrying about the crumbs on the counter tops are not as important as praising you for the words you write out on our garage floor with colorful chalk: Sophia, cat, mom, dad......nor as important as time at the kitchen table working on your sticker book! You were so excited about finding a new sticker (Highlights) book in your playroom today that Daddy and I thought you had won the lottery! You were out of breath when you made it to the kitchen with it. Immediately sitting down to work four pages before dinner. And those bedtime questions during story time, "Mommy, what is dozing?"
I loved, loved, loved the laughter that erupted too when the lights were out and I said, "No more talking just kissing!" You giggled and giggled! I had to stop and ask you if "Ms. Tracy says 'no more talking' at school!" You said, "Yes!" Maybe just maybe you won't repeat it at preschool tomorrow but I pray that when you hear those words, No more talking, you'll smile and think of Mommy's extra hugs and kisses just for you.
Are you still following me? I want you to always be happy with all the moments of our lives that bring you joy overflowing from your heart outwards to those you are near, around, with.........as you've been known to pray for Daddy, "Bless Daddy every where he works!", I ask the same blessing over you, "Bless Sophia every where she goes & in all she does!"
