I'm not respecting the ten o'clock hour tonight. It's past ten. Yet, my decaf coffee is perfect for this cool crisp night------the weather has been absolutely delightful these past three days and we've soaked up as much of the outdoors as possible after preschool. I have to laugh silently every day! When I ask you what your favorite part of preschool was at the end of the day, you always say playing outside (or in the gym)! I remember my former students being asked a similar question.......what's your favorite subject? And they'd answer P.E.!! That's you my little school girl who is conquering the day as a superstar preschooler! I'd worry about you if that's all you liked but you can't get enough of writing, reading, coloring.....
Two great days---Tuesday and Wednesday! I couldn't quit telling you how proud I was of you today! And you STAYED at preschool all day........although you asked Mommy again why I didn't come get you at lunch! I promise that I will again but I want to surprise you!
Mommy was less anxious today too so it made for a perfect day for both of us. I must say that I have to thank you for the one reminder today from you....to slow down and enjoy the beauty around me-------the simple pleasures of today! After preschool, we filled the afternoon with snacks and more snacks, playtime outside, time petting and feeding Princess Girl, writing with sidewalk chalk, driving the truck with Daddy, nail stickers (your reward for a super day), dinner, time at the park, time watching the helicopter and ambulance, bathtime, ipad time in lieu of reading books------although you selected Dr. Seuss's ABC book to read.....we were on "Big M Little m What begins with M?....midnight music...mighty nice" and as I touched the ipad to turn the page, you said, "Mommy, I like that mouse music!" You touched the ipad and had the page reread itself and then you waited........and the music played! You said to me, "You see?"
Oh! Little one how, how much do you teach me in one day.......my future students may never have homework again. They may just be told to soak up the rays of the sun and play outside until it's time for bedtime stories. Yet, parents will be loaded down with the assignments to STOP. LOOK. LISTEN. I love everything that you are teaching me. As I reflected on this simple question----this minute moment of time with you today, I knew that God's finger pulled forward on to his lips and said, "Shhh! Listen."
Browsing through pictures, I was reminded of our family day in August......stopping to pick the wildflowers......and this...I promise you. I will listen for the music. I will look for the wildflowers------the acorns, the colorful leaves, the mums, the pumpkins---all that the season has to offer. I will set aside time to cut out pictures from magazines with you that you visualized and asked me if we could cut out right when we wake up tomorrow. I will continue to fill your days with activities that you can lead and show me what you love....what you hear.....what YOU see!?!
You see? I'm here to fully embrace this journey with you to count my blessings one by one and do as Max Lucado says, "Be a child again. Flirt. Giggle. Dip your cookies in your milk. Take a nap. Say you're sorry if you hurt someone. Chase a butterfly. Be a child again."
I loved seeing you with your recycled toilet paper tube binoculars tonight that you made at preschool for "Camping" week for the letter Cc! I don't know if I can promise a camping trip (yucky---bugs!)----maybe a partial one with luxury sleeping arrangements! But I can promise more Smores, roasted marshmallows, nature walks, wildflowers.....
I thought of one other favorite moment! You had never done this before. Yesterday, when you woke up for school, you called Mommy to come to back to your bedroom. I was already up sipping coffee. When I came back there, you said, "Mommy, it's too early in the morning...go back to sleep!" I crawled in close to you and you snuggled. You were prepared to camp out in bed Tuesday morning rather than get up for preschool. You silly little girl.
I love you!
