Ornaments: The Cross

At the beginning to December when you and I arrived at Dyersburg Primary School for speech.....We walked down the long corridor and a smile spread across your face as you saw reindeer down the hall! They were delightful little children’s faces with hand print painted antlers and red pom-pom noses! They definitely made you want to shout with GLEE…………and re-create your own! And we did just that.......
Sophia, the Red-Nosed-Reindeer

Today when we arrived at the primary school, we saw sparkly ornaments hanging from a bear tree! You said, "Mommy, let me show you my favorite pumpkin!" Silly, goose! I had to explain that they were Christmas ornaments hanging on a tree that had lost its leaves. We took a closer look and saw the hanging thread, the crayon colored ornaments adorned with glitter! You asked if we could make some too! Of course, I said, "Yes!" So after speech, ballet, a mini play date (while Mommy worked out with Mrs. Ashley), we headed home to begin dinner and create ornaments. Daddy helped us finish them after dinner! The three of us were sitting in your playroom creating paper ornaments with glitter glue and string-----items we had on hand at home! In the midst of creating, I asked, "Daddy, what other shapes do ornaments have (besides circles and ovals)?" I didn't even get the question out of my mouth and you darted across the house. Daddy answered with another shape as you were flying out of the playroom. I asked Daddy where you were going but before we could figure it out, you were back! You had a crystal cross in your hands and you said, "Like this one!" The shape of the cross! It never ceases to amaze me how quickly and accurately your little brain works! Jesus is the reason for the season! You are studying the letter J in preschool this week and you talking about Jesus's birthday! And yes--------the perfect shape for an ornament is the cross!! Thus, Daddy created you two more ornaments to paint with glitter before our project was complete------------

May these little hands always be a blessing--------and blessed!

A table full of magical ornaments awaiting......
They're still drying but Mommy will have a surprise for you tomorrow when you return home from school! P.S. It'll be linked to you saying, "Mommy, those are my favorite lights!" The two times Daddy has taken us driving through the neighborhoods to see the Christmas lights twinkle, you've said that the colorful lights are your favorite!

Today, your Elf surprised you by hiding in your backpack. Just when you were telling Mommy that you didn't want to go to preschool and that you wanted me to pick you up early, you laughed busting out in tickles everywhere! You told him that he couldn't come to school with you! And when you did go to preschool you were all smiles and ended the day by telling Mrs. Tracy all about your sparkly, princess lip gloss that you bought in Kentucky!

Two other surprises took place today too. Your elf opened one of your Christmas gifts and got tangled in the tape! Then while we were having dinner, he opened yet another one! He was sleeping underneath the wrapping paper but we discovered that the gift was Daddy's pajama bottoms! You were just as excited about his gift as you were yours. Until a commercial caught your attention---------you asked for a princess bicycle and a pillow pet that lights up your room at night------you were referring to the ceiling but called it my "skillin!" I didn't make promises. Daddy asked you if you told Santa. Which reminds me that me must write that Santa letter soon! The bicycle request did earn you a tin can jar. Mommy printed you a picture of the bicycle and Daddy taped it onto your tin can! We told you that you have to earn the bicycle by saving your money (change that Daddy gives you, etc.) and that when you had enough, you could buy it! Mommy is thinking Valentine's Day..........

Right before you fell asleep, you had one more request for something tangible. I don't even know now what it was but I reminded you that you have to honor Jesus this season and ask him what he wants for its HIS birthday. You were thoughtful. We discussed the topic a minute. I know all of these moments this season are overwhelming--------as you're learning, I want to remind you to remember an ornament shape that Mommy forgot about tonight, the cross! You were so quick to remind me and my prayer is that neither one of us will ever forget as we seek to find the balance in this Christmas season!
