A blanket of winter covered us with cold weather again this week and I seemed to retreat into hibernation again but after today's warmer temperatures and a few hours outdoors, I seemed to find the perfect spring to my step again. The week started off busy with another preschool week....carrying you to preschool, prepping for speech class...meeting the demands of working from home, cleaning house, paying bills....and more! And Monday was Mommy's nameday so an influx of calls from family came in keeping me on my toes and busy....although I wasn't able to answer every call just the few that I was able to answer kept me off task. Fast-forwards...a impromptu coffee break and play date at our house on Monday afternoon....lunch with friends today....a long walk/run for Mommy while you were at preschool today...new found "twitter parties" for Mommy...promises of playing outside when the sun shined...and we were/are officially off schedule for the week! But sometimes life IS what is and we have to embrace the moment and worry less about the perfect rhythms of routine. I have to remind myself of that often since I like order rather than chaos in my life. But as I lie here next to you in the middle of the morning (3:00 a.m.), I'm thankful for each moment. You've been up and down since 12:30 a.m. with a stomach bug that keeps jolting you awake every fifteen minutes. We had counted down the days to your Easter hunt and party at school but it looks as if we won't make it to your schedule day of fun later this morning! Mommy will hate missing the excitement on your face just as much as you'll miss sharing the day and Easter egg hunt with your classmates but we'll make the most of the rest of the weekend as you find your strength again. Besides, you're the most colorful egg that I've seen all season! I found you fast asleep in my bed all decked out with purple horizontal stripes and pink/white chevron stripes this afternoon!
You looked beautiful and egg-stra special this Easter season. I was delighted with the new clothes that arrived for you in the mail today------your new spring wardrobe from Old Navy for preschool, speech, voice------and life in general! Simple cottons full of pops of spring color! I look forward to seeing you in each item that Mommy ordered for you! We'll let each piece have its glory---I'll catch you wearing the piece and capture just the right photograph of you in it!
After waking from your nap this afternoon, you hung out in the kitchen with Mommy while I took part in my second "Twitter Party"---I'd laugh at something someone tweeted and you'd ask, "Mommy, what's so funny!" Social media has become my source of 'adult conversation' with Daddy working long hours, family far away, and friends busy with their own lives-----I enjoy my time online and the "literary" and "social" world of both but there's nothing like unplugging too and just visiting with friends/family------or just you. When I finished the Twitter party, the phone rang! Mrs. Dee called to check in with us and we chatted away as you played in your playroom. As I finished my phone conversation, I thanked you for playing quietly in your playroom and letting me chat. When I started to get busy with the next task of cleaning up, you quickly reminded me that I had promised you outdoor time kicking the soccer ball around! And so we did.....we kicked your soccer ball that Papou and Yiayia bought you around the front yard, Mommy managed to also pick up two garbage bags of twigs and debris from our yard/flower beds, we twirled in circles (at 42 lbs--I don't know how much more I can twirl you around but I loved having the opportunity to do it once again before you're just too big!), we sat on the porch and talked....and rocked on the rocking chairs! I asked you if you knew what Easter was about...You answered, "God." You were eager then to keep telling me, "Mommy, Happy Easter" and ask about your egg hunt/party at preschool tomorrow---"one more day!" Then, the subject quickly changed. You got that look on your face when something goes off like a light bulb. You said, "Mommy, you know what? Mrs. Tracy has that sight word like I have on my ipad-----i.s.--IS!" I just love these moments with you! IS! You were so delighted to share this home/school connection with me! I was just as eager to hear about it too! To know that every day you come closer and closer to developing into a fluent reader/writer---------I love the pictures you draw me, your requests to write words in your journal, and the lists you create with me at the kitchen table--------and although I like a neat time sheet, I love to sit down in front of my time sheet for the blog and find little pictures scribbled on it...flowers, hearts, clouds and more.
And speaking of flowers.....I found a few little purple flowers growing under a wooden fence today as I was finishing my walk outdoors. They instantly made me think of you. Thus, I stopped and picked a small bouquet for you! You loved them.
When we were outdoors soaking up the sunshine for an hour late this afternoon, you found just one purple flower close to the road as we were chasing after your soccer ball. You said, "Mommy, wait!" You picked that one little purple flower and said, "Here Mommy. One for you like the ones you picked for me!"
One more day with you IS worth living for----you are everything to me! You fill my life with JOY. Sometimes life IS what it IS but there will always be magical moments all around you. Never lose sight of them! Just remember your sight word: IS!
