The end of April and the first of May brought about a few under the weather days for you. The barking cough continued to develop into a nonstop cough that we counteracted with breathing treatments, liquids, and plenty of rest. We had to cancel and reschedule your pre-school picnic & early birthday celebration that was scheduled for this past Thursday. With fever spikes and continuous coughing ravaging your little body, I knew you couldn't handle anything but quiet time at home resting------although with you, even quiet time is a busy time in our lives. You fill each day to the brim!
This spring, we've been busy learning words--------sight words from a set of Christmas cards you received. Already, you've earned money from Daddy for impressing him with how many words you were already calling off! You pegged that first $10 for another baby doll but since birthday gifts are already around the corner, I've added your ten to your Edward Jones account for a future need/want. By then, your earnings will have earned you interest and you can rename how you want to spend it. Although, I must say that watching you play with your baby dolls is pure delight! As Mommy has started filling our suitcases with items we'll need for Greece, I came into the bedroom to find yours filled with baby dolls one morning. I allowed them to stay in there for a few days but then the two of us discussed that we needed the suitcase space for clothes and that closer to our departure date, we'd determine which babies were traveling to Greece with us. It seems as if it's too early to begin packing but living out of two suitcases all summer is a challenge for us since we both have many interests. Tonight, the two of us opted to read one of Mommy's magazines at bedtime instead of your stack of books. You immediately started pointing out words that you have learned, "No. Up. In. etc." Thus, we tore out those words to cut them out tomorrow morning for an added assignment as you learn to read these words automatically. This reminded me of the two of us coloring at the kitchen table this week. After we had colored, I wrote your name on our paper spelling out Sophia. You were asking me what I was writing and I answered, "Music." Just as I finished your name, you said, "S.O.P.H.I.A. that says Sophia not music." Then, you picked up a marker to write music. You asked me to spell it for you so I took advantage of asking you to sound it out and together we sounded out each letter as you wrote, "Musek!" Daddy and I praised you and looked across the kitchen table and smiled at one another. I just love to encourage you and earnestly delight in all that you are learning as you are becoming an avid reader/writer. No matter where I look, I find papers of endless letters written and many times if I take the time to look they spell words you've copied like "ROSEART" from your markers or "Copy" from the printer's screen. My favorite word to find is "MOM"---just yesterday as I was cleaning your playroom, I found two little notebook papers from a mini journal. They were hanging from the backdoor in the playroom with little sticky tabs from my desk drawer. One of them said, "Mom" on it. Pure "musek"!! I love how many times these images sing soft melodies of love to me.
Many times in the midst of life, we have so many wants/desires as we sort out all that we want and need. Our hurts can't be put into words or find healing in a day's hours. And many times, we can only see past what's before us in our own lives. It's then we hear about someone else's pain, someone else's struggle------like the bombing of the Boston Marathon last month (although you didn't hear and/or ask questions the event still affected Mommy). I had many questions of why and as the questions remained unanswered...as the silent prayers illuminated my faith didn't waiver.....our time together as mommy and daughter continued.....while you attended preschool, I continued my training sessions of building endurance through walking/running with my goal to finish 5k-s with my own personal record of........(a time yet to be determined since my training really just began this year after discovering I really enjoy daily time out walking/running outdoors each morning---two year trend for me).....after preschool pick-up, lunch, a nap----the two of us headed to the park in April just a day after the bombing. I was numb not really knowing what to feel or where I was in my understanding of it all. The two of us were listening to K-Love and You Are played as the two of us sang it aloud. I didn't even realize you too were belting out each line until I had turned off the engine to the truck. The song continued as I turned around to look at you...only to find you singing, "You are the song, You are the song I'm singing. You are the air, You are the air I'm breathing, You are the hope, You are the hope I needed." We sang the song until it ended and then opened our doors to enjoy time at the park. And that there.......that moment was the "musek" I needed to understand enough of the why. When the enemy takes control, when there's a storm, a struggle..........there will always be hope. God. Let His presence envelope you in praise!
.......and if I may, I want to capture a few more "musek" moments that caught me off guard but awe of you, the joy of your innocence------and the pure joy of being your Mommy....As we are preparing to pack for Greece, I had ordered a few dresses for you to try on for Mary's wedding this summer. We couldn't go shopping with you being sick. Thus, I thought I'd buy us some time and have the dresses shipped to us to try on at home. On Friday, they arrived. Thus, I asked you to help me by trying the dresses on without pulling off tags, etc. so that we could decide which dress to wear to Mary's wedding this summer. You asked, "Why? So I can have a baby?" Only Mommy would understand this! You're so eager to have a baby of your own (since you love baby dolls). So in the past, I've had to tell you that we have babies after we grow up, finish school, get married, etc. So when I said dress + wedding + married, you were delighted that a baby was next! Ha! I just love you........We'll let Mary have the baby after marriage this time! Another joyful moment came sometime this weekend too....innocently as ever, "Mommy, how do you make a baby?" There have been many how do you make questions so I just smiled when this one made it's way into the list and of course, I had to answer..........
When two people really love one another.........they make a baby as sweet as you! You fill my life with musek, each moment carefully sounded out with your individuality.
The melody couldn't be sweeter! I love you!
