Silver Dollars

One day this week, we pulled up to Daddy's shop to talk/see him as you always request when we're near Daddy's shop. He put his hand deep in his pocket and pulled out something encased in plastic and shiny just for you, a 2014 silver dollar! During this season (close to your birthday), we've come to enjoy receiving these little treasures for you. However, we don't even anticipate the gift. It's one day close to June...from a friend/client of Daddy's---someone you've seen only two times to my recollection. However, he's faithful in his gifts for a little girl that's dear to Daddy's heart. Year after year....2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013----and this year, these coins have celebrated another year of love. They're worth their weight in 'unexpected joy' for their significance in giving outweighs their silver value! What a gift of faithful servant-hood----Daddy has been faithful in his years of service when Mr. Joe would call and need Daddy's help, expertise, advice or such---and in return payments were made not only in checks but food and the ongoing gift of silver coins---but above all friendship, love, respect. I can't vouch for the relationship Daddy and Mr. Joe have or about the years of service among them but being on the outside---standing next to Daddy to support him when he's gone endless hours working...standing next to you as you wait in earnest for a life full of joy where questions are answered and eyes are averted on you...I can say that there's a bigger calling....that the little unexpected moments of joy cumulatively effect the whole!

Here's a little history about the coin:

The obverse design of the American Silver Eagle features the classic “Walking Liberty” design created by Adolph A. Weinman and used for the circulating half dollar from 1916 to 1947. The full figure of Lady Liberty appears in a flowing gown, walking towards the rising sun with a hand outstretch. The inscriptions read “Liberty” and “In God We Trust” with the date “2014″ positioned at the base.
On the reverse of the coin is the heraldic eagle designed by former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint John Mercanti. An eagle appears with a shield at its chest and a ribbon in its beak containing the motto “In God We Trust”. The eagle’s talons grasp an olive branch and bundle of arrows. Surrounding inscriptions read “United States of America”, “1 oz. Fine Silver”, and the legal tender denomination “One Dollar”.

The Silver Eagle has carried the same obverse and reverse design on all bullion and numismatic versions since the series was launched in 1986. The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee recently discussed a potential new reverse design for the series.

The 2014-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle is struck in 99.9% silver with a weight of 1.0000 troy ounce and diameter of 1.598 inches. The coins are struck on specially burnished blanks and feature a finish similar to the bullion counterparts. However, unlike the bullion coins, the “W” mint mark appears on the reverse to reflect striking at the West Point Mint.

These special silver dollar coins are yours to enjoy and cherish when you're older. Today, we'll take time to write a special note of thanks to Mr. Joe for remembering you once again this year!

I inserted these pictures of you writing your thank you note to Mr. Joe as a reminder of the importance of handwriting notes of thanks to those that give unselfishly to us! I loved how you used your 'fake' golden coins to trace circles indicating many coins. Within each circle you drew a little happy face---happy, happy, happy! You are always happy and I can't think of a better blessing....a childhood filled with happy memories and days with you always scheming for a smile or a laugh!

XOXOXO

I love you little one!
