Our Little Tiger Lily

Sunday brought about not only a new week but a new month!?!

June, your birthday month! Now the countdown is on until your birthday celebration...

Your eyes lit up this morning when I greeted you with the news that it was June! You took a deep breath and the excitement was your exhale! At the dinner table you said, "Daddy, guess what!?!" Quickly relaying to him that it was JUNE, your birthday month!

From that moment of excitement this morning until your eyes followed suit after many, many yawns, we packed in a little of everything---a new coloring book from the Dollar Tree, a cashed ticket for your deposit to your Edward Jones account, swimming, cooked a batch of hummingbird nectar, mowed the lawn, worked with Daddy, cleaned up the yard....cartoons....questions...changed clothes to look like Daddy, park time...bathtime... inchworm crawl...a day of learning and your sharp eye for the world around you always makes me smile. You never miss a beat! When Mrs. Cindy asked about the slaw recipe, you chimmed in how to make it....your verbal recipe was almost perfect! You noted olive oil instead of vegetable oil (since we use olive oil more around our house and you didn't mention the sugar but what good cook would!?! We sneak in the sweet stuff always!)! You didn't let Daddy walk by a ticket!?! You brought it home to Mommy. You saw a Tiger Lily across the yard and asked permission from Daddy to pick it for me! And after darting across the yard to give it to me, you noticed Daddy busy working without you----a dash to help.....

Our Little Tiger Lily

Facts about the Tiger Lily:
  • There is an old legend from Asia about the Tiger Lily. A Korean hermit helped a wounded tiger by removing an arrow from its body. The tiger asked the hermit to use his powers to perpetuate their friendship after his death. The hermit agreed and when the tiger died, his body became a tiger lily. Eventually the hermit drowned and his body was washed away. The Tiger Lily spread everywhere searching for its friend.
  • There is a superstition that smelling a Tiger Lily will give you freckles.
  • The Tiger Lily stands for wealth and prosperity.
  • The Tiger Lily, has six stamens (composed of anthers and filaments), one pistil (composed of the stigma, style and ovary), a long style, and a three-lobed stigma.

As the bedroom lights went out tonight you said, "Mommy, tell me a once upon a time story and you can make it up!" The story was about a girl that helped Daddy find his pressure washer-------"...and she drove all the way to Sonic to pick him up!"

"But Mommy, I can't drive yet!"

It's only a matter of time. You're a quick learner. You don't mind dirty jobs. You're strong. You listen. You read people as you observe them. You respond with wit. You love nature. You're a thinker...a doer...a mover....full of energy. You want to help others. A giver....and our prayer is that all of our trials in this life can help you build your character and help you fulfill your calling so that you are wealthy and prosperous for God's Kingdom....A friend recently posted this status on Facebook: "In a letter from Paul to the Church at Thessalonica, Paul describes how they treated new believers: "gentle among them, like a mother caring for her little children; and like a father, encouraging, comforting, urging them to live lives worthy of God, who calls them into His kingdom and glory." The statement served as an encouragement, a reminder...Everyday of our lives, it is our purpose to teach you to live a life worthy of God who has entrusted you to us. When we as parents even think of growing weary of this job, you too encourage us through your desire to learn, your questions, your faith...you help us press on and spread our wings to cover you.

You're our Tiger Lily. Almost six....like its six stamens that you were counting. You might end up with freckles that I'll have to kiss---yes you were sniffing it!?! I know you'd "spread everywhere looking for your friend" too---because you are relentless (like your Mommy)! You, Sophia, stand for wealth and prosperity----our wealthy & prosperity because these entirely unexpected moments of joy wouldn't exist without you, Little Tiger Lily!

We love you!

XOXOXO
